SOLVED. Book about a woman slowly dying after taking an overdose [s]

I read a book about 5 years ago. It is written in diary form both by the mother and the daughter.

The mother has taken an overdose and she is telling her story about her abusive ex husband and his mother.

The daughter is called pippa and her mother hates her. She's very promiscuous and not very wise.

It's set in the north of England, pretty sure it's middlesborough

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee? I haven't read it but apparently it starts with Pippa at age 50 then goes back to her youth.
