Médico norteamericano precursor, en el siglo XX, de la muerte asistida, también llamada "muerte digna", "muerte piadosa", "muerte misericordiosa", "suicidio asistido". También justificó su actividad con esta otra frase: "Si podemos ayudar a las personas a venir al mundo, ¿Por qué no podemos ayudarlas a dejarlo?" Karkovian inventó un aparato para auto administrarse substancias letales que llamó "Thanatrón". Con ese y otro más le facilitó el viático a 110 personas, antes de ser enjuiciado y condenado a prisión por 25 años, de los que sólo cumplió ocho, quedando libre "por buena conducta". Ahora, cuando la decisión personal de decidir la propia muerte, forma parte de los derechos humanos, y se practica en los países más civilizados del planeta, empieza apenas a entenderse la aportación libertaria de Kavorkia.
