I know in hindsight it probably does not matter when I read it but I want to get the best possible experience reading this series. Some say reading it first gives the most “Emotional Damage” but I did want to read it in the “Romantic Order” and I believe that would be 3rd? I’ve heard reading it 3rd also sets you up for heir of fire? BUT then I’ve seen it placed 4th to read? And at this point my brain is fried? 😂😭😵💫😵💫😵💫

Personally I read it first , it really sets up the series and makes getting to understand the characters easier :)
I read it first and can’t imagine doing it differently. There are things you won’t understand in throne of glass and crown of midnight if you don’t read assassin’s blade first.
I would recommend not going 4th, because I think it’s good to have the info from The Assassins Blade before reading Heir of Fire. That said, I personally don’t think you can go wrong by reading it first or third. It depends on what you like! Without spoiling anything, TAB is a set of novellas which all occur prior to all the events in TOG. If you like things in chronological order this is definitely the way to go.
I read it third, after COM. I personally really liked this order. If you read it this way you will learn of a pretty big “something” in TOG and COM, but not get any details until you read TAB. Some people don’t like this, because it’s like seeing a spoiler. I still thought it was equally emotional and impactful because we get to meet the main character first and connect with her/understand her motivations before going back and seeing her backstory. If these things would bother you, I would choose first!
