I merged the titles, but when I went to recombine I got the warning:

You have reached a temporary limit for combining and separating works. Sorry for any inconvenience! Please try again later.

If no one else steps in to recombine, I'm writing down to do this tomorrow when the temporary limit is lifted.

I think it's because of the Goodreads maintenance. Librarians can't combine editions these days, too.

I guess they set the limit very low. I now managed to re-combine.

Wait a day. It happens if you edit large series a lot. Every change in a series may count as the number of books in the series.

I just got this message after just a couple of edits. Maybe they set the limit very low after coming back from maintenance.
I know how to recognize I'm not wanted.

The very low limit should be temporarily. In the past there when the combine function was back after maintenance there have been issues with too many people at the same time working through all the waiting requests. So we get a slow start every year.
