Fiona | 1148 comments I didn’t know it was happening and slept. The next morning, I saw it on Instagram and was really sad to have missed it. Then I heard it’s going to happen again the next night so I stayed up to catch a glimpse of it but it wasn’t visible for the eyes, only for cameras, which of course I didn’t know. So I was pretty bummed out!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments It was raining here that night so it was not possible to see it. According to the maps we could have seen it where we are, but the weather was awful. Same with the solar eclipse. We had a glimpse of it for seconds among the clouds, but that was.all, although it was 95% covered here. Very disappointed with the skies of Pennsylvania this year!

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Sarah: It was already over when I've heard about it. I would've loved to see it. It must be very special. It seemed to be a very interesting talk. Last weekend there was Comic Con in Brussels and all of the Hobbits were there and even the actor who played Smeagol. I was so bummed that I had to work that weekend. Is it a recent autobiography that John Gough wrote?

message 504: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19138 comments I knew about it and still saw nothing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry Saar, it was John Garth, I'm rubbish with names lol. He wrote a book about Folkien in the war quite some time ago but his most recent was in 2020 which talks about the places which inspired middle earth etc

I laid down to read while waiting to go out and, first thing I knew, it was sunrise. So I slept through it.

message 507: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm comforted to know I'm not the only one who didn't see it.

message 508: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments We had severe smoke here on Saturday and then heavy cloud cover, so I didn't see them either. I see them quite frequently but never so vibrant as what this storm brought. We generally get the creepy light ghostly green. Still when they move across the sky, it's amazing.

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Sarah: Thanks, I'll see if the library has it.

Sarah | 18550 comments Final essay of Year 1 handed in today. Just got to wait 2 months for my results now. And now I get a summer holiday.

I had a lovely weekend. It is Bath festival which started at the weekend so it kicked off with music being played across various venues in the city. There was a nice vibe, especially as the weather was lovely, we just wandered around and soaked it all up. It is a festival with music, art and literature. I have booked to see an author speak on Thursday, a Psychologist, who is talking on the science of happiness. I can't remember what his name is now, lol.

I spent the Saturday with my friend and went to the local board game cafe which was fun. And then on Sunday, I went to Cardiff with my boyfriend, wandered around the park there which was lovely in the sun, found a quirky cafe and a board game/rpg shop. The weather has been really nice, although I think back to rain this week.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I love the idea of a board game shop.

message 512: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19138 comments That sounds like a wonderful weekend, Sarah. I also love the idea of the board game shops. I wish we had those around here.

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments You had a lovely weekend, Sarah, I love the idea of a board game café. We have one too.

message 514: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I love them. There are quite a few near me and seems to be a thing in most big towns/cities. The shops and the cafes, sometimes they occur together. They have become even more popular since the pandemic.

message 515: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Are you living in Bath now Sarah? Whether you're living there or just visiting, you're a lucky duck, it's a beautiful city 😀

The good weather was lovely but we're back to the rain also. We're going away for a few days to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and rain is forecast the time! It's our 2nd staycation this year - the last time there were gales everyday. Ireland is lovely when we get good weather, but that's getting rarer and rarer. We are facing a potato shortage soon because the ground is so wet. Thank goodness for pasta!

message 516: by Sarah (last edited May 22, 2024 10:05AM) (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I live in a small town which is 25 minutes south of Bath so it is my closest city to visit. I still work in Bristol though. I do like Bath, lots of history.

Happy anniversary Margo. Enjoy your few days away. Typically raining for a bank holiday weekend.

Kristie | 19138 comments After reading your post, Sarah, I went to look for a board game cafe near me and I was wrong. We do have one! Very cool idea. I'll have to get a group together to try it out sometime.

Happy anniversary, Margo! Disappointing about the weather. I hope it ends up being nicer than expected.

There are a few in Quebec City. For the last 2 years, that' what we have done for our local work Christmas party. Lot's of fun.

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Okay, I've tried to be optimistic with every little ray of sunshine we've got, but please, no more rain and cold! It has been raining now for weeks.

message 526: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I know the feeling Saar. It's a holiday weekend here and, so far it's dry, but I'm still in my winter clothes!

message 527: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 1148 comments An hour ago the rain here finally stopped after 4 days of literal nonstop rain 🥳

message 528: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Well, it's dry now. So hopefully for a couple of days. It seems to be really bad in parts of Germany.

message 529: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 1148 comments Yes especially in the south where I live, while my sister, who lives in the north, went to a beautiful sunny wedding yesterday 🥲

Sarah | 18550 comments It has been a lovely sunny day here in the UK today, although yesterday felt pretty chilly at times. I went to the UK board games expo at the weekend with my boyfriend and friend which was a lot of fun. Too many people, but fun. Today i booked a holiday to Split in Croatia with my boyfriend. We're going in August. Very excited.

That should be fun. They were one of my favourite bands back in the day.

My friend went to Croatia last summer and she said it was beautiful. Enjoy!

message 536: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've been feeling really rubbish the last few days, assumed it was an asthma flare but turns out i have covid. Oh joy. Im in a lot of pain and discomfort in my chest but all sounds clear which is a good thing. Working for myself is hard when ill, I've had to cancel all my clients and won't get paid. I'm hoping my chest doesn't get any worse. Gives me a chance to try to break my reading slump with ebooks.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Oh no Sarah! Hope you feel better quickly and it's not too bad a case. And I wish you all the best on your reading catch up, my aim last week while I had my case was to smash the toppler and reading just wasn't a thing. Audiobooks worked great instead.

message 544: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Feel better soon, Sarah.

message 545: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks guys. I started to feel better then yesterday was horrendous. Today is better again. I remember the rollercoaster nature of covid from last time. Are you all recovered now Rus? I got no reading done, audiobook or print. I've been struck with brain fog. Tried to do some uni related reading, read the first 4 words and was like "is that even English?" and decided to put it away lol.

message 546: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments The strange thing about Covid is the brain fog. I had that too and couldn't concentrate or read at all. I hope you'll feel better soon, Sarah.

Also, I got treated on a extended breakfast, 2 cakes and hours of reading and yesterday cake with my best friend and gifts!
