Elvis And the Dearly Departed – Peggy Webb – 1*
I like a cute and sassy cozy mystery as well as any reader. I love eccentric characters and outlandish plots. But I DO expect at least a semblance of a coherent plot. And at least SOME law enforcement involvement. In this case, I think the author was trying way too hard to make this “cute” and “sassy” and failed to deliver any plot worth remembering.

In Ascension by Martin MacInnes was longlisted for the 2024 Booker Prize, but I, like many readers, have a love-hate relationship with award-winners and nominees. I began by enjoying some of the early background of how the Dutch manage living below sea level (mostly), but eventually, I lost interest. Perhaps it's just me at the moment.

I was reminded today of my old commentary (written as a review) that was prompted by an article on a New Zealand site about why we need reviewers.

I'll share it again as a warning to researchers. I have not read this book, but I trust the reviewers who did. I included links to their opinions and to the NZ article.

My commentary about a couple of scathing reviews of Charles Darwin: Victorian Mythmaker by A.N. Wilson with links to their reviews and other information.
