Sorry, Iain... I'm caught up on my pages now though. I'm sure we'll be neck-and-neck again later!

Y'all know I'm down for those BRs whenever we get around to scheduling them... 5 min Sherlock looks like fun too, if Feb wasn't so crammed...

Share thoughts in spoilers. I was holding off on that one for later. I enjoy the 5min Sherlocks.

New Gray Man: The Chaos Agent is out! Plan to read it soon. 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️

Busy on my end. So keeping lowkey on audios. Spreeing music and reading during my downtimes.

Gonna restart Orphan X, read Mystery Club, some other library loan and then Chaos Agent.

I still need to do Snowman and Souder Hill... I can do them before Chaos Agent, if needed... (snowman is coming up before chaos agent, either way, actually)...

Narilka | 5726 comments The Case of the Felonious Faire I'm in ch 8 and already having fun. Hayes had a blast writing Sherman's dialogue and I love Scott Aiello's narration of the series. (view spoiler)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I have a new (one of the new stuff made) at one of the local Korean bakeries pastry. Called Chocolate Bong. It's like a soft oreo with a dollop of raspberry jam in center. Soft & light choco cake buns, swirly vanilla creme + raspberry center. About the size of a small burger. Oh there are choco chips in bun. 🤸‍♀️🤗🤸‍♀️

I've had other choco bongs but they're usually too sweet. This is light on sweetness but rich in flavor mix. Tasty!

Nirkatze | 21219 comments Mmm... making me hungry there... I might need a slice of pie... I made a chocolate banana creme pie over the weekend... it's staring at me....

My Leave of Absence and Short-Term Disability have been approved through my initial estimated return to work date of 3/7, so that's a weight off my shoulders... but my foot continues to bother me, and I'm concerned there's something going on with the Sesamoid Bone, beyond the toe fracture further down the toe area, so I've moved up my follow-up appointment from 3/5 to next Tuesday 2/27... would have gone even sooner if I could...

In the meantime, I'm trying different extra things to help...

Visual Aid:

I seem to have re-exacerbated the foot pain, doing a bit of snow shoveling on Friday, after a big snow storm swept through... it snowed for like 12-18hrs, and I went out to deal with it before it started melting and freezing and became harder to deal with, while it was still powdery... not sure it was the shoveling/salting, or me maneuvering awkwardly to get snow off shoes without too much jostling that caused the problems, but it's been almost a week, and I'm still not as healed as I was last Thursday before the whole incident...

message 415: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Uh... to shovel, you will press down on your feet to stabilize, lift and throw. So that would automatically use feet muscles, strain and add stress to fractured area.

Goof.

Do all the things to help with swelling and blood circulation. Like warm salt foot soak to relax muscles, cold pack to help with swelling, elevated foot rest while sitting/laying down.

Plus, get some noms delivered from grocery store or restaurant.

Timelord Iain | 35621 comments Mod
I didn't really throw, I just pushed it all 6-10ft away from my car in a box, and did the little walkway to the salt bucket... but yet... I was probably risking some pressure, like you said... felt like something I couldn't ignore, tho...

I stocked up on food Friday/Monday... good for awhile, at least... been considering food delivery, tho, yea...

After the fact, I found that it WAS a waste of time, since it mostly melted by Monday when I needed to drive again, and the temp had shot back up to springtime temps...

message 417: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Next time, pay a neighbor teen to shovel for ya. Worth the $10-20 bucks to not hurt your foot. 🤞

Nirkatze | 21219 comments In other completely random news, I was browsing the Audible Plus catalogue looking for something to recommend to my mother, and found that the Michael Sullivan's Legends of the First Empire books are listed under "Historical Fiction."

....

*facepalm*

EDIT: So are Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books... damn, Amazon really needs to look up the definition of "history"... I don't think you can still call it historical fiction if there's dragons in it. And I mean, the books should really take place on earth. Just sayin'.

So are Jules Verne and Jane Austen books... Those aren't... technically... they're fiction books written during the historical periods they're set in, that's not... gah!

I started Sporemageddon... it's a RavensDagger shorty (compared to Cinnamon Bun, it's 1/3 as long, more novella length)...

Pretty wild premise... I read the blurb before, about a magical world on the brink of Industrial Revolution destroying environment, reincarnated an Earthling mycologist to come help...

What I didn't expect, was for the reincarnated mushroom lover to start out from birth, and pretty much have to wait out growth and do baby things while accidentally unlocking mushroom classes and stuff, and accepting because being a baby is boring half the time, lol...

Based on the cover, she has to grow into a teenager, minimum, at some point, but right now, at 15% in, she's closing in on her first birthday...

Made more progress on Sporemageddon... near the end of Volume 1, now, and the MC is 8...

Her entrepreneurial skills are reminding me of the scarf seller kid in the In Death series, later on...

The scientific Earth approach to learning about magic/etc lately is giving me some Equal Rites vibes with Simon...

And the Industrial Revolution / unrest is giving me Age of Madness vibes, mostly because I mentioned that recently in another thread... it's nowhere near as bloody/etc... it IS a bit darker that Cinnamon Bun, tho...

The tragedy at the end of Sporemageddon Volume 1, reminds me of the shock I had at the end of Trader's Tales #6, where what seems like a pretty cozy story/series turns violent...

And, the Nature POV reminds me of that awakening land thing going on in Beware of Chicken, a bit...

The story has just enough Interlude POVs to give you an idea of how adults see the MC...

And I kept calling the MC the MC because I never got her new world name... her Earth name was never mentioned... babies don't seem to get names in the fantasy world until they turn 1, and get named by a cleric of the Churches or something... and the MC revealed to her parents that she was a bit of a heretic before then, and that going to a naming ceremony would probably get her in trouble, for being a cleric of the heretical Nature God...

So, it took me awhile to realize that the MC is 8-9 years old now, and still nameless...

I think I'm approaching a bit of AI saturation, in my thrillers... if we get more AI plotlines from Orphan X & Gray Man next year, I'll be a bit frustrated... they both played with it this year, and I think they played with it last year as well, from what I remember, or the year before...

Started putting together my March BR list, and it isn't as bad as January/February...

Between a few things ending/winding down in February/March, and how many new releases I forgot about in February, and just March being a longer month...

I have 37 books and a few short stories in March, compared to 40-45 books + 5-10 short stories in Jan/Feb...

Of course, things ramp up a bit, again in April, with the Ilona Andrews plans, and new sci-fi BRs scheduled like Foreigner...

I still need to input page counts and audio lengths into the spreadsheet for March, to get a real idea of what it looks like, and maybe add some more BRs I haven't signed up for yet... there's some standalones I can look into, I think...

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Oops I did it again...

In other news I only have two more February books on my planned schedule, so I got that going for me I guess lol

I have 3.2 left, I think...

Last bit of Gods of Jade and Shadow
Dungeon Crawler Carl #3
Paladin's Strength
Godkiller

Only about 1400 pages... 46hrs hours of audio... 15-16hrs at 3x speed... super doable...

Just in time for March to come in like a wrecking ball, with Kushiel's Dart and alot of front-loaded BRs/pages...

3 days and 350 book records later, my 2024 spreadsheet is completely filled out of all BRs I have planned for the rest of the year...

It took me alot longer than I expected... adding all the BRs missing, adding in future BRs in series that aren't fully schedules... short stories for certain BRs... adding Goodreads links to everything, and using that to get to the editions page to get page counts... searching every book/series on Audible to get audiobook durations...

Filling it all in ahead of time is less work than trying to go back and remember everything after the fact, which has happened in years past...

message 439: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 21219 comments Ehh... my March is looking just about as packed... 61 BRs so far, and maybe 4 books carrying over from February--we'll see what I finish today. Godkiller, Golem & Jinni, SPYxFAMILY 5, and Great North Road. Really looking forward to a lot of March reads though!

What changed about the formatting on Audible? I can't see the difference... my memory isn't that good, I think.

Elliott Kay shared a sneap peek of the Hot Restart audiobook to patrons, coming soon to Audible... it's the Content Warnings from the start of the book...

The audio is being listened to for corrections right now, by Kay... no idea what the release expectation is... I didn't find a listing on Audible yet...

Timelord Iain | 35621 comments Mod
CAPTCHAs are so random... did another 2 weeks this morning, and no triggers...

Still gonna pause... there's some sort of hourly/daily limit, and once you trigger it hard, it takes forever to fully reset...

Only 3 months left to do... then I'll be 100% caught up for the first time in 2-3 years...
