@Iain--it seems like Yanique is pretty busy right now... would you be willing to go ahead and make the Tea Princess thread for us?

Found it! And I also noticed Yanique jumped in and started making threads right as I noted she was busy, lol... including that random Eye of the World one...

I don't think she noticed the chicanery... I left her a message in our Secret Spot about it... might get deleted... dunno...

The thread is gone... either Yanique or Goodreads deleted it... hard to tell, really, these days :D
I need to vent a little. I'm currently visiting family for the holidays with my brother, and we're taking the plane back home (we live in the same city, 10min away from each other) tomorrow. At 8pm, my brother noticed he messed up the rental of the car.... Last day is not tomorrow but today, we have to park the car 11pm at the latest in Nice (a 30min ride). So off we go...First stop, the 24/7 car wash thingy. My brother put a 2€ coin in the machine while grumbling about not being able to pay with a credit card, press the button and.... No water. Not even poor pressure, just nothing. After calling someone (not sure what happened, I was busy asking my sister to drive us to the airport tomorrow), he tried a different machine. I put in my little 2€ coin, press the button, still nothing. At that point, the guy tells us to come to a different car wash from the same corp and he'll give us 4€ worth of time. So back in the car we go, a 20min ride (kinda in the right direction so that's fine), and FINALLY we manage to clean the car. No more bird shit (pigeons are vicious in the French Riviera lol)
We still have to refill the tank. We've been keeping an eye out for gas stations because the 2 we usually go at are exceptionally closed for some reason. We finally find one, it's exceptionally expensive but we're both fed up and willing to pay extra to get it over with. Finally, we head to the place we're supposed to park the car at. It's half past 9pm, and we CANNOT find a spot. We're driving round and round, for 20 minutes, and nope. Nothing. Of course there's nowhere to park a fucking car 'cause parking spots are ugly, and the city is supposed to be all pretty for the tourists. We decide to park at a spot we're kinda not allowed to but it's maybe fine 'cause Nice is a lawless place when it comes to parking spots. We take the pictures and all, my brother fiddle with the car rental app, and finally, it's done. It's 10:22pm, Google Maps is telling me the bus station is 12minutes away by foot, the next bus is at 10:30. So we run like headless chicken, not exactly sure where we're going 'cause the bus stop is moving every 6months for some reason. We manage to catch it (it almost run me over but hey! I stopped it at least), and we get the Bus Ride of Hell, 80km/h in the moutains in the dark. 1h-ish and 50% of my will to live later, we arrive.
It's just a 15min walk. I get attacked by a squirrel because why the hell not. I drop the keys on the ground, get annoyed, try to kick at a pebble but it's actually a FIXED decoration that looks like a pebble (who does that?) and get annoyed AND in pain because I basically kicked a wall very hard while my brother is maniacally laughing next to me. When we finally open the door, it's 11:30 pm.
I'm never letting my brother buy tickets without double checking everything ever again.
Ooof! I would go buy some acid and pour it over that pebble and laugh maniacally as the evil decoration is destroyed. All in the name of public service. Everyone's stubbed toes would thank you.
My Audible app is punishing me!Instead of the Library going back to the top of the "Downloaded" section that I have it on, it goes to the very bottom of the audiobook list. Then I have to do a long scroll back up to the top. Cause I have hundreds of audiobooks downloaded to listen to. XD
Punishing me!

I'm on a Reading Rampage! Gotta hit my GR Goal! XD
You must have a large storage device... I have an older model with an earplug port still, and could never download that many books...
☠️☠️☠️ Welp, I didn't realize it, but the expiring Audible + books on 12/31 is in 6 hours. Not at end of 31st.
Need to prioritize what stories I wanna read. The ones I had planned to wrap up are also on KU. So, I'm gonna listen & speed read.
🙃🙃🙃
Looks very minimalist and sleek... didn't it used to show more info at the top about sitewide participation & books read?...
It did all that and let you see the books you read as bookcovers. You could click on book to open up book page. Now, stupid long in single book per line and can't click on book to go to book page.
They also wiped out the individual challenge per year. I relied on those to do a quick check of what I read. 💩💩💩

Alternate options:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/stat... (if you click details for 2024, you'll see smaller book covers sorted by rating)
https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_i... (I think this is sorted by read date, but the cover sizes are all over the place, and you have to keep loading 20-30 more books at a time to reach mid/late year)...

@Narilka: reading Road Trip now... it's been too long to count as a BR if I read next year...
I'm interested to see how this plays out, since Florence is now similar to NSLICE-00P in Arrival now

I just realized Florence was given spare lives to get 9 lives of a cat, lol...
It's been interesting, but I also feel like this book is barely scratching the surface of having to destroy all the Lich's phylacteries... I guess the prologue explained that away with a bunch of threats other than the MC...
near 66%, already...

And done... I really liked the twist in the final battle about cat's being too independent to be controlled by necromancy...
And the epilogue reminded me of Tricks for Free (Incryptid #7) and the Lowryland amusement park...

Thanks for the reminder, Iain! I forgot about the My Stats page. Well, according to my homepage, I finished GR Reading Challenge with 247 books.
Via My Stats, I only read 244 books and I had to delete a random book that was added as read for 2024, but I didn't read it and it was only noticed cause there was no rating.
Via My Year in Books, I only read 243 books.
So I'm gonna go ahead and finish up the novellas I had planned for the day. XD
Make sure it's definitely 247+ before midnight.
Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy, for meeting arbitrary goals... I read over 900 pages today, but could have hit 1500, if I'd not got distracted by youtube while recharging my device and read 1 more book...
This is just me trying to clear my BR backlog, tho... I already hit all my goals with 556 books and 221.8k pages on the spreadsheet... my vague goal was 555 books and 220k pages, because it seemed doable...
GR has all my reviews for the year, now, and has around 540 books and 210k pages... alst few books haven't processed in yet, I don't think, but I also rated some anthologies that condense a bunch of short story listings from the spreadsheet, and I don't seek the best page count when doing GR reviews, the same way I do for the spreadsheet...

Happy New Year...
My neighbors can feel free to stop setting off fireworks any time now, thank you very much... I don't really care for random people setting off random fireworks at random times...
I think professional setups can be cool, but over the counter miscellany isn't really of any interest to me, and just annoying when I hear them go off...

My neighborhood is offf the hook right now with fireworks and we still have an hour til new years here
lol I just hear random explosions, but don't get to see the show. Which is lame! I kept my curtains open and lights low for ages!
Happy New Year folks! I think I'm probably the last one to hit the threshold in our group--unless we have any lurkers in Hawaii or Samoa--I've still got an hour to go. Fireworks still going off in my neighborhood too... have been for the past three hours, and probably will continue for another two at least...

Too late really, but I've been trying my best to catch up on my 2024 reviews in a last ditch effort before the New Year... well, I got up to 334/733... so only about 400 more to go lol. That's not as impressive as it sounds--I probably only did 10 reviews today... I did a good job of keeping on top of reviews until the mid point this year. So I'm up through May. It's going to get harder from here on out. Trying to channel my inner Iain.

I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Happy New Year everyone! I am looking forward to 2025 hopefully being a lot calmer/less stressful than 2024. Happy reading everyone :)
GRs is being hammered as always at the beginning of the year. I'm starting to get page time outs.Anyway... @Iain & @Nirkatze - I'm going to request Discworlds through December as we only have through April at the moment. I'm planning to list you both as buddies on the requests.

Sounds good! Thanks Narilka!
And Happy New Year!
Love the gifs, @Iain--yup, that's it exactly, lol!
☠️💩☠️Kindle reads are automatically added to GR Reading Challenge tracker.
I have the GR update function turned OFF on my Kindle apps.
And yet! My skim read of Iron Widow on Kindle was added as a read book on my tracker.
🙄
Oh well, guess that means my challenge will be wrong by mystery number from now on.
I'm opting out of the GR Reading Challenge this year... I don't like the changes... so I'm just not gonna use it...
Timelord Iain wrote: "I'm opting out of the GR Reading Challenge this year... I don't like the changes... so I'm just not gonna use it..."Honestly, probably a good idea. There's always Book Stats and Year in Books.
😆😆Those are jalapeño Monterey Jack sliced into sticks. Side o cheese with fancy ramen. Many like to add cheese to ramen. I like it as with but not in.
Timelord Iain wrote: "2 sticks of butter cut into french fry slices? :D"I'm glad you asked because it looked like butter to me too lol
I was honestly thinking maybe weirdly shaped pineapple slices, but cheese makes sense, lol. Love all your food pictures Soo, except it makes me less excited about what what I'm eating, lol.
