Most of us read more than one book a month, but if you are at all like me, there are books you plan to read in a given month that you simply don't get to.
When we were looking at ideas to increase the popularity of book discussions, one idea was a thread where members could commit to one specific book per month, and then come back and give their opinion of it once it was read.
This (we hope) accomplishes a couple of objectives: one, it helps others determine if they are interested in a book or not by seeing other group members' opinions of it. Two, unlike a monthly "picked book" challenge, it doesn't commit anyone to reading a book they weren't already planning to read and might not have room for, because if they don't they really can't participate.
We're still going to have "picked book" reads based on members' nominations and voting, but we're going to do it quarterly to give people a better chance to obtain the book and get it read without throwing off the rest of their reading schedule.
