edit: I tried both Safari and Chrome -- same result.

But this is nothing to do with librarians who are volunteers who maintain the database.
This thread details things that librarians can't help with & gives you the link to contact Support.

Thank you for the link

"We’ve temporarily disabled reading progress updates on our homepage due to a high volume of traffic to Goodreads. You can still update your reading progress by visiting any book page, scrolling down to My Activity, and updating your page number or percentage next to Progress. Please visit Goodreads Help for more information."

Thanks Melanie.
IMO they should have put this as the banner headline, since it affects everyone on Goodreads.
But at least we know now.

Haha, brilliant!
Progress updating still works for me on the editions page (on my laptop).

I remember a few years back there was a similar issue and it got fixed sometime in January, it's a small thing yet an important one, it makes you able to track your progress while reading a book, especially one of the larger ones.
Possibly for one to require maintanence and they had planned some days off for the holidays, rather then risking worse to happen they just disabled the feature.

I've been trying to find that "My Activity" and "Progress" but I just can't see it?!
I can see "Edit my activity" below the cover and "View all Reading Activity" next to "My review" but there is nothing in either of them I could update.
Am I totally missing something? The book pages are so difficult to navigate these days, that I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes, as Melanie also wrote, "although the steps they give to update don't actually work since they're from prior to the Book Page redesign".
I personally can still update on the editions page.

Oh, thanks. Yeah, I didn't connect those.

Well, I'm not completed, I just started it today, so that probably doesn't help. I just would like to mark my reading every day. Thankfully I can use Storygraph for that.

Wait, how do you update the reading progress from the editions page? You can rate it or change shelves, but I don't see a progress option there.

I read some posts and this happens every year around new year

So, to update a currently reading book progress go to "My Books" and then the "Currently Reading" shelf. For this shelf view you need to make sure the "Format" field column is ticked and saved (see Settings) permanently. It is this field that will allow you to quickly access the work page for any given book which is where you can mouse over the edition you are currently reading and see the progress update entry form.
In short,
Steps to do: My Books -> Currently Reading shelf -> Go to the book you want to update find the Format column, click Edit to bring up the work page for that book -> Mouse-over the currently reading edition to access the Progress Update form. Save as normal.

I forgot that people first need to add the 'format' column to their 'currently reading' shelf before it will work for them.

WOW. I've been using Goodreads since 2008 and I had no idea about this function. Crikey. Well thanks! I used the app earlier, but hopefully they'll put the normal function back on the home page. Still don't get why an uptick in traffic means they have to disable a couple of random elements.

I don't recall them ever having disabled the progress update feature, though. Maybe I blocked it, but I think I'd remember being this annoyed, LOL

In my expirience - you dont have to do that (this "format" setting thing or enter edition page).
You can simply go to your profile (not home) page - where you see your currently readings, place a mouse on the status there and there it is :-) (sry for my english!)

Ah yes, that works too! Great, thanks :)

Thanks, this is the first advice I have been able to follow and find a way to update the progress. (Though by the time I saw this and tried it, GR was already working normally, so I'm still not sure if it had worked for me...)

Thanks for writing in. We’ve temporarily disabled reading progress updates on our homepage due to a high volume of traffic to Goodreads. They should be up and running again soon. In the meantime, you can update your reading progress directly from the book page. Here are some Goodreads Help articles:
First off, no you can't update from the book page, as many of us have pointed out to them on FB since they are apparently unaware that they redesigned the book pages. But also, the first link they gave me was to a desktop help post called "How do I update my progress for a book I'm currently reading?" And the post says:
From the home page on desktop: Under Currently Reading, click Update progress and add your page number progress and/or comments. if you don't see the book you want to update, click View all books to see all books you're currently reading.
Literally they just told me "we disabled it on the home page" and then they send me to a help post that says "update it on the home page". God, this company is absolute shit.

It started working on the homepage again, for me it's on desktop, do you use it on your phone? The problem should have been resolved today or rather the feature enabled again.

Yeah, it's back now, but I got this email reply just about an hour ago, and I thought it was ridiculous that their CSRs don't even read the info they send out to people.
