Every single one of my classmates had cellphones, we were all 10-11 this made me feel very excluded. I remember I begged my parents that whole year for a phone. They said no and I am very thankful for it. Looking back, I don't understand why any adult would think it is a good idea to give a 11yo a phone if they don't need it (this is a very privileged school and our city is very safe so it is not like they needed one to communicate with their parents all day long) And even though that that whole year I felt really bad I wouldn't want it any other way.
I understand that phones and the internet are so useful, a very important tool that I know I couldn't live without but companies make money by keeping our attention for as long as possible. And they do their jobs very well bc I am so addicted to Instagram and tiktok that I had to delete the apps. I only use them in my computer now because it is less comfortable and I am less likely to spend 8 hours a day scrolling.
If I ever have kids I don't think I would give them phones, or, at least access to the internet. it sounds crazy ik.
but one time, I forgot my phone at my grandma's house, which is almost two hours away. my parents refused to go back for it because, by the time I realized where it was, almost a week had gone by!
*ahem*
*sighing at stupidity*
