Can we pick a list with House of Flame and Shadow on it, lol? I am chanting to myself not to start reading it until Feb 1st. It's killing me.

Pretty much, lol.

Unfortunately, most of my tbr books are on no, or virtually no lists at all. *sigh*

Will see what we can do, lol.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments So, Tru and I were thinking, as Donna's not been well, we don't want to put any pressure on her to have anything up in time for the feb Listopia.
But if we posted our list picks here, then people have a starting off point to be getting on with, and Donna can sort the page as and when she's feeling up to it. (No rush Donna! 🤗)

Of course, Tru went and picked a very difficult list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2... (I can hear her cackling with glee at the looks of dismay from here 😆)

I was going to post a historical fiction list myself this month, but decided to take pity on everyone, so my choice would be: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... (yes Ashley, your book is on there!)

(naturally, if any of you guys have been sitting on a stack of books and kick us out of the top 3, you'll have to pick a list to use instead! 😉)

Geez, a girl takes a few days to grieve and you all make it seem like I am deathly ill. I was planning to post it today. Give me a few minutes and I will post the new thread.

The new thread is up but I will give everyone time to update their posts.

message 60: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2150 comments I may have about ten more points to add, but no more. So, I doubt very much that will put me in the top this month. If that helps figure stuff out. I will post as soon as I finish my last book for the month later tonight.

message 61: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments I am not cackling!!!!!!!
I have resolved to read more nonfiction. There are some GREAT books on that list!

message 62: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments And besides, with Sammy’s list we can read almost anything……

Sammy's list was one of the lists I was considering, if I made the cut! LOL

At current count, Aoife is in 3rd but Angie is one book off so it could go either way (or a tie for 3rd).

The 195 points a piece just disgusts me. I couldn't even break 30 this month... 😂😂

message 67: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments Truitt_T wrote: "And besides, with Sammy’s list we can read almost anything……"

Yes, but you chose it before you knew what I had picked 😜

It was your list that made me take pity on everyone 😆

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments Ashley wrote: "The 195 points a piece just disgusts me. I couldn't even break 30 this month... 😂😂"

Just don't expect a repeat of that in Feb 😂

For starters I'll be losing 3 days around my birthday for my annual LotR watchathon with my son (and apparently I'll also be required to interact with actual humans in face-to-face situations around that time. *sigh*) and I'm no longer house-sitting, so crazy reading time has evaporated 😆

message 69: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments Well, Sammy, once I knew you were going cover Ashley’s book, there were only so many lists you’d pick…..

message 70: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments I'm mostly just surprised your list doesn't have Twilight on it! 😆

message 71: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2150 comments Well, nw I know what kind of reaction I would get if I chose the "speculative science-fiction with authors whose name ends in D" list!

I hope no one actually creates that list now...

message 72: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments Sammy wrote: "I'm mostly just surprised your list doesn't have Twilight on it! 😆"

I was beginning to think that Twilight was on every list...

Jenny wrote: "Well, nw I know what kind of reaction I would get if I chose the "speculative science-fiction with authors whose name ends in D" list!"

I don't know, Jenny, it might be interesting to see what books ended up on it, lol.

I just added my final book and I reiterate that I will never have a Listopia month this good again. Of course, there is that 'special' list for February, so maybe I'm wrong?

message 73: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2150 comments You know what? I found some excellent books on the vagina list.
A bunch of Christopher Moore books, if any of you sillies haven't read him yet, although, why voters on the list think that The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove or Island of the Sequined Love Nun are silly titles, I just don't know.

Also very entertaining books-
Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan Henry Skippy Dies by Paul Murray Vampires in the Lemon Grove Stories by Karen Russell and for Sammy, Groom of the Tyrannosaur Queen by Daniel M. Bensen !!!

And, if any of you are in the mood for a really good "historical" fantasy book, then give Islandia by Austin Tappan Wright a try. It is on the big books list.

How in the world did you two manage to get the exact same amount of points? Did you read all of the same books? I didn't notice that earlier. I saw you two were posting lists so I just assumed you knew you two were the top two.

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7439 comments Mod
Well, in true HOB tradition, I will allow 4 winners because of the 1st place tie. I think you guys plan these things.

1st place: Sammy & Tru
2nd place: Angie
3rd place: Aoife

message 76: by Aoife (new)

Aoife | 413 comments Well I hope someone likes my list.. 🤣

message 77: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments I'm not going to lie. I could have finished another book last night, but I held off in the hopes of a tie. Glad it paid off 😆

Of course it is... 🥴

If I finally give in, who is going to BR it with me?

message 79: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2150 comments This would also be a great companion read if Hot Prof ever shows up again for the next installment in the back room. Time machines, Dinos, one writer with a command of the English language, one not...

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments The real question is, how is his grasp of basic human anatomy?

You are so much nicer than I am - I didn't worry abut that at all, lol.

I just needed to fit in some non-fiction......

ETA: Ok, so now I feel guilty for my pick......thank goodness the rest of you went for fiction!

message 85: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments I've picked a few much more limited lists in the past year... I figured it would be cruel to do that again this month, lol.

Seriously though, you get in the top 3, you pick what you want, it's the whole point! 😉

Don't be Tru! Just about every book ever written is on my list, so it's not like you're forcing everyone to read American History. (I actually have a couple of TBR books on your list! Whether I'll get around to them this month is another matter, lol)

That's exactly my trouble with most nonfiction - unless I set it up in advance, I pretty much never get around to it, lol. Hence the list.

message 89: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments Mostly I find it awkward to slot non-fiction into team challenge reading, as the letters that can be used are very limited because no characters.

Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War is on my tbr, and I've had a copy for almost 2 decades (!) But Bs and Ms are going to be useless for the next 3 months 😆

It suited me to for romance and black covers so I went with it lol

I'm so much slower with non fiction ( and some I don't even finish... memoirs are not for me) i never try to line them up and just read pieces here and there
