Overall I liked it, but when I put it down, I never had the urge to pick it up again.
You know how every book has something that has to happen for the book to end? Like, when the detective figures out whodunnit, the book ends; when the quest is completed, the book ends; when the MCs declare their undying love for each other, the book ends; etc.? Never at any point in this giant doorstop did I ever have a feeling of what would have to happen for the book to end. I'm not sure Sanderson did either, because the book didn't end, so much as stop.
I was ready to write off the rest of the series, but then Book 5 threw 6 major plot twists at me, and now I'm going to have to read the next book dammit.
Book two is really hard to put down. So much information in book one is really setting things up. I’ve only finished the first part of book one but it has been enthralling so far!

Oh I didn’t find it prologue-ish. Sorry if it came across that way.
I was still engaged with book one … as I said it really went by very quickly from part 3. you just dont realise how much of it all becomes more relevant in book two

I have to say I really enjoy Sandersons style and his ideas and world building tend to be so very good.
And then there are those details that just make me smile. Like the female scribes adding secret notes to the books they're writing on behalf of the illiterate men. Made me chuckle, and I just love the idea of all those annotated books in that world and the solidarity of the women in never giving it away.
Omg I loved that, too Sammy. I’m assuming it will become even more important in later books all those sender notes, too
