Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Started pre-populating my list from the 2023 list of what I targeted and never got to. Next up: figuring out the oldest TBR on the shelf, that's always fun!

Donnajo | 4354 comments It’s a guessing game.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16928 comments Carol: looks like some good ones to target . The oldest is always the hardest!

message 8: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4354 comments I'll probably end up using the book I thought I was going to read this year for the oldest on the shelf and the other one that is harder I think is a book before I was born but I got one in mind for that too. Might start with those to get out of way not sure.

message 9: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Just did some tweaking, deleting some TBRs and adding others. I was perusing one of my other TBR lists and saw a recommendation from Ann that was perfect for the "recommended by someone" category so I just requested it from the library. Thanks, Ann!

Donnajo | 4354 comments It’s good you are thinking ahead.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Finished #13. Thanks Ann, I loved the book you recommended. I only discovered at the end that it was the first in a series and only published last year. Throughout I was thinking "definitely going to reserve the next one!" Oh well. Any news on whether there WILL be a next one?

message 16: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16928 comments Carol: I am very glad you liked Sleepless City. I hope there is another! Reed Farrel Coleman. Perhaps this will lead one of us to sample another of his many series books.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Okay! Added three finished to my list! (Is it cheating to add something that was a Group Read? I'm going to say no!)

Book set in several countries: The Spy Coast by Tess Gerritsen. That's the Group Read.

Book I meant to finish last year: I Never Thought of It That Way by Monica Guzmån.

Book set in a country other than the one I live in: The Hunter by Tana French. (Ireland) Oops, that's another Group Read, lol!

Anyway, chipping away at the list!

message 18: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16928 comments Good for you Carol! definitely not cheating! :)
I may have to "cheat" and use those two group reads too. LOL

message 19: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Right? They were kind of obvious. I'm sure I'll read another book that takes place in another country this year, but I don't know about one that takes place in several!!

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Hooray, I'm cooking with gas!!! Just finished Rain Fall by Eisler, Barry 05 June 2003 which I moved from the top 10 to a book I started in the past and finally finished. I picked it up back when our dear departed Cheryl was raving about Barry Eisler but just started reading it last year. Don't know if I'll read any more but I'm glad I read it

I also added our new group read to the "author I haven't read before" category. Nothing wrong with killing two birds with one stone!

message 22: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4354 comments WTG Carol. Keep up the good work.

message 23: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16928 comments Carol: I've started it a couple of times and haven't yet finished Rain Fall by Eisler, Barry 05 June 2003 . It may not help that the audible audio I got years ago was redone later by the author because he didn't like how the first audio version turned out.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments One more down! Finally read No Plan B, one of two to go in the Reacher series. Of to reserve the next one although I'll wait a couple of books before reading it.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Two more logged! Where the Guilty Hide, recommended by Gail, a NTM author, and The Secret, the second Jack Reacher to bring me up to date with the series (I think).

message 27: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16928 comments Carol - good progress! I need to update my determination list with the Dashofy!

message 28: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments I looked over my list for the heck of it, not expecting to be able to post anything, and realized I am currently reading the book I expected to list in the "coming out in 2024" category, A Talent for Murder by Peter Swanson.

message 29: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4354 comments That’s great.

message 30: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments 3 books from the lower half and all 10 in the top half are yet to be done. I'll have to focus if I am to finish my DL!

Completed A Talent for Murder as the book published this year and have started The Man in the Queue by Josephine Tey, published before I was born.

One of the things I don't like about early publications is that the printing is often in small typeface. That kept me from finishing a book in this category last year. This one is interesting, police procedural, but in addition to the small font it also goes on for paragraphs with no dialog. I didn't realize how much I relied on dialogue to keep me interested and able to easily read the page.

message 31: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments I also realize that I could knock off the multiple authors category by reading one of the Reacher books written by Andrew and Lee Child. I think I must have one coming up in order.

message 32: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16928 comments Carol, the Child brothers writing Reacher is a good idea. Usually by this time of the year I have read an anthology or two but none yet this year. PJ Tracy was reliable before the Mom half of that duo passed away. I’ll consider for my “more than one author” entry. Good luck on your list.

message 33: by Carol/Bonadie (last edited Oct 09, 2024 10:59AM) (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Finished the book published before I was born, finally! It was slow going because the print was small and there were pages and pages of uninterrupted paragraphs without dialogue to break things up, but I enjoyed it. (The Man in the Queue by Josephine Tey).

Not sure where I'll head next!

message 34: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16928 comments Carol: small print is a showstopper for me; I then seek an audio. Good progress, hope your next entry leads to a good book!

I just checked when I read this - 2014. My eyes were definitely a lot younger then!

message 36: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Finally dipped into my first 10 by knocking off one of my owned books The Sandman by Lars Kepler. #4 in the fabulous Joona Linna series which takes place in Sweden.

message 37: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4354 comments That is great Carol that is one of the harder ones. I already think I know what my 2025 book will be for before I was born but not completely sure yet it might be from the upcoming library book club for next year if it doesn't change it's a classic.
I find too with small print it's harder for me to get though. Yet I find sometimes Large print library books take me longer and who knows why that happens.

message 38: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Thanks, DJ. Already looking forward to 2025 DLs!

message 39: by Donnajo (new)
