I am here because I want to know more about kids autism and something like that.
I just want to know more to make sure whether trampolines are helpful for such kid groups.

I am Kenneth Nixon Jr. I am new to the platform and getting comfortable navigating these types of communal spaces. I will be a debut author on May 2nd, 2023, with my first book, a memoir titled "Born Into Crisis." I use my personal stories (born to a mother with severe mental illness) to highlight the environmental, social, and generational traumas that keep black Americans trapped in generational cycles. I also focus on a call to action on how we can transform the behavioral health system in the U.S.
I am excited to share this space and have great conversations with other avid readers & writers.

I believe mania is harder on people around us and fun for the manic itself. Kind of like toddler hyperactivity. At certain point it gets scary. Its okay to miss it, all feelings are valid. Just know that manic state can get dangerous and you might regret the outcomes.

If you are unsure abut trampolines, i would first try to find a place where the child could test it before purchasing trampoline. Maybe your neighbor or friend has one and agrees to let you use it for an hour? Maybe some playground or playhouse has it?

Welcome, Holly!
Hi there,
Even though i have been an avid reader my whole life - both fiction and non-fiction, I have always read the old fashioned way. I love to browse bookshops and have only ever read paperbacks. So, I found my way to Goodreads primarily as an author, but thought I'd check in here and say hi to some kindred spirits. I have suffered with cptsd for my whole life. It manifested mainly as acute social anxiety with depressive features. I developed this condition as a result of being raised by a narcissistic mother. She is NPD but undiagnosed. Recovery is a painful and somewhat lonely journey so I'm grateful for this space. Thank you!

Hi Simon 😊. This is a quieter group but they often choose good (helpful books to read). Welcome.

Welcome Simon!

Hi Jeff - You sound very accomplished, with a full schedule and more. I will put Lost Connections on my list to read. Most people think they can fight depression alone. But if unchecked it can create unintended consequences. Thank you for sharing.

I'm Nova (they/ey/it), and I'm 15.
I struggle with anxiety, depression, bulimia, self-harm, and suspected bipolar 2.
I'm so happy to have found this group.
I absolutely adore reading and its gotten me through some pretty bad times.

I was a book junkie when I was younger, then went to school for Psychology as my dream was to work in the mental health field. Busy with school, raising a son, and working full time I forgot my love for reading. Anyway, since I had personal experience with mental health struggles, I wanted to help others struggling so they don't feel alone. Finally graduated and found my love for reading again. Discovered that in order for me to stay in recovery I needed to stay busy so I started writing a book. (I am)
I am a mother of one, a cat owner of two and a die heard swiftie :)

Sorry for the confusion, I am in recovery now! My book is about my struggle with an eating disorder, with glimpses of what it is like to have an eating disordered voice in your head. I used journal entries when I was in treatment and when I returned home from treatment to capture the thoughts during that time!
Is your book nonfiction or is it more of a biography type?

Family members had Bi-Polar, Schizophrenia and Severe Mental Disability.
I also have a daughter who battled anorexia for years - but that is not in the book. Good luck to you. Let me know when you finish the book.

Oh and I’m also a diehard Swiftie. :-)

Hello, I’m Kat.
I have bipolar disorder with OCD and ED - I love reading books that are relating to those.
I read the following genre: memoirs, self-help, biography, mental health, abuse, romance and realistic fiction.

Very similar here! Also have OCD and ED. Also love books regarding mental illnesses. (Message me and we can exchange recommendations!!!) I actually wrote a book depicting my ED :) looking forward to hearing from you because I’m pretty sure I read every mental health (fiction) book out there

There is no disease called OCD. Nervous weakness is a single disease due to its occurrence. Today it's OCD, tomorrow it's something else. Or, one person has OCD and another person has a different disease. The reason why the disease symptoms are so variable is not because the cause of each disease is different, but because the body consistencies are different.

Eating disorders are bad things that exist, but there is no disease called "eating disorder". Let's admit that it exists, the field of treatment is not psychiatric medicine. Having a psychiatric illness, especially before the age of 17, must be a very special situation. I think we should message. It is very easy for me to find solutions with simple and useful medicines.

In terms of my parents and my sibling, I'm the only one. My mom's aunt (my great-aunt) was schizophrenic and I know my dad's mom (my grandma), suffered from severe depression.
If I understand correctly, there's a high chance of a relative with schizophrenia who can end up having bipolar disorder and that MI's can skip a generation (hence my parents not getting them). And that it can jump between siblings (hence my sibling not getting them.)
I was told an uncle was bipolar but there's no direct clarification on that so I can't be 100% sure.
Still, though, I often wonder how I ended up with the disorder, specifically the BD.
