Hi Group.I'm a psychiatrist and author of both fiction and nonfiction. This includes textbooks on co-occurring mental health and substance use (2014, second edition comes out in 2021), a book on opioids (2018), and a couple older books on bipolar and Alzheimer's. I also did a PARADE special edition last year on the Science of Sleep--which is a wicked-interesting and important subject.
I write murder mysteries and thrillers under my own name and urban fantasy with LGBTQ+ protagonists under the pen name Caleb James. I try to keep the fiction and nonfiction separate, because no one wants a psychiatrist who spends each morning contemplating murder and how best to get away with it.

You are very versatile and I like your irony. If I saw a psychiatrist I'd be pleased that he had a wild imagination and a sense of humour.
Hi everyone! I’m Sarah and I have been on goodreads for about a year and this is the first group I have joined. 2020 has tested my mental health and I experienced my first anxiety attack a while back. I joined this group so I wouldn’t feel so alone with learning how to deal with the increasing pressures and also because I have found books to be my escapism :)
Hi Everyone! I'm Ilyssa. I joined the group several days ago. I just graduated with a BA in psychology and plan to become a psychotherapist.
I know a variety of people within my family and friends with a variety of mental disorders. I suffer from anxiety. I love reading different mental health-related books, especially about disorders or problems I personally do not know much about yet. I look forward to interacting more with this group!
Welcome, Sarah and Ilyssa! Maybe you would be interested in our bookshelf with anxiety representation available here. I recently suggested more books with anxiety rep in discussions, take look there too.
Hi everyone my name is Emma and I’m new here on Goodreads! I’ve worked in numerous placed in the fashion industry and now work for myself as a full time apparel reseller. While it has its upsides, it’s a breeding ground for health anxiety worriers. I have always had GAD, but as of recently been struggling with health anxiety. I recently been on medication and doing CBT.
My therapist recommended me I should try to read books to help me with my word finding capabilities and anxiety.

Hello there, I'm Hannah. I'm 20 (soon to be 21!) and an undergraduate student at a local Conservatory. I study Music Therapy & Psychology. This past year was the icing on the cake for me mental-health-wise. In 2017, I was diagnosed with a physical chronic illness: polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). In 2019, I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD). In 2020, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Soooo yeah, this year was fun. :P
I love reading and writing, and someday I'd love to convert my journals detailing my journey with PTSD into a novel about it. But for now, I'm looking to read more books (especially fiction) about mental health, find more representation, and educate myself on disability.
Hello! im hala, im 15 and ive been strugling with an eating disorder for the better part of last year, ive been going to therapy and i reaaaaally like reading so im kinda using it as a coping mechanism

Hi everyone I recently found this group and thought I’d join. For the past few years I’ve been working on my mental health, and have acknowledged I have depression. I’ve scheduled my first therapy session for next week, as I’ve been having more bad days lately. I’m 34 years old, she/her pronouns, and I live in New York. I look forward to contributing to the group and I plan on checking put the previous reads. As an American I can say looking into this group today certainly seems appropriate, and I am grateful that myself and loved one don’t live in Washington, D.C.

I suffered from OCD, GAD and Bulimia for over 10 years, and studying and understanding my conditions helped towards my recovery. I have been better for a while now, however my teen daughter has ADHD and I need to now find the best books I can to help her as I currently feel like everything I say is making things harder for her. Any book recommendations welcome!! Thanks

Hi folks,I'm Bertalan, the author of Believe, Live, RUn, which is about my unlike journey from a village to becaome a biomedical engineer.
In a nutshell, I was raised up in a small village in Hungary. On my way sometimes spiced with desperate situations, finally I graduated in 2018 at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) as an engineer. My disease and commitment inspired me to interconnect my engineer job with my personal contact and also the healthcare: by going on with my studies, I obtained master degree at the joint biomedical engineer programme of the BME and Semmelweis University.
I've written a book about my story, inlcuding cancer, sport, health and engineering aspects.
Please, check it out on my page, if you are interested in these topics.
Give me a feedback, drop me a message about you opinion!:)
Best wishes,
Bertalan

Hi everyone! I'm Katie. New to GoodReads, I don't know why I didn't sign up years ago! I love to read and have a pretty eclectic taste in fiction and non-fiction.
I live with bipolar disorder and my first book about this mental illness has just been published. I'll be promoting 'Living at the Speed of Light' in the Author's Corner :)
Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Hello. My name is Emilee. My 29th birthday was last week and I cope with adhd, generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and Trichotillomania. Reading is my favorite hobby as it calms me down. My favorite genres are mystery, suspense, thriller, horror, and true crime.
Hello! My name is Maya. I'll try not to get into my entire psychological profile, but I have adhd and ocd as well as generalized anxiety disorder and have been informally diagnosed with autism and depression as well. I have always struggled with reading, but it is something that I really enjoy, and I want to try to read more often and get more into different book series. My favorite genres generally are science fiction, mystery, thriller, fantasy, and anything nonfiction history or music history related. I also really like comic books too. I joined this group because I hope to start reading more and hopefully get some recommendations for new books. Also, mental health and disability representation in media is something that really interests me, and I'm interested in psychology too and talking to people like me I guess, so a mental health themed bookclub seems like a good fit :)

Hi everyone. Thanks for having me. I'm really glad to have found this group on Good Reads!I'm Jo or Joanna. I'm from the UK. I have suffered with mental illness for many years. I have often been misdiagnosed unfortunately. I definitely have a confirmed PTSD diagnosis which there is no doubt about but I believe I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder as well as Major Depressive Disorder or potentially Bipolar Type 2...it's complicated!!
I have spent enough of my life in psychiatric units which has been really hard.
I really enjoy reading thrilers and romance novels, as well as non fiction including memoirs and anything mental health-related/inspired or self help/development or anything psychology related! I am hoping to broaden my reading too though!
I probably will leave it there for now but I really appreciate this group even exists and that I found it and have already discovered some books to add to my Want To Read list!! I'm new here and don't really know how this all works! But thank you for having me :) x
Hi everyone! My name is Skylar and I am a college student and mental health activist. I've struggled a lot with perfectionism and more recently anxiety. The past year has really tested my mental health, like many others, from COVID to my parent's separating. Now, I really want to immerse myself more in the field to help others and learn more about the community.I look forward to learning and growing with you all! Also thank you to those who shared more of their story in these introductions.
