2024 Introductions

I am a reader-reviewer from Mumbai, India. I have been a member here since last year. I read many genres, but historical fiction is among my top favourites. I have almost stopped reading WWII fiction though; that subcategory is getting saturated.
I find quality book recs for this genre in this group, and am so grateful for the same.

Ahaha thanks, I'm slowly reverting back!

Yes, this speaks to be so much. Enjoy motherhood, and welcome back too.

I’m not an avid reader, but I’ve been trying to read more.
And because of that my “resolution” is : whenever I feel the need to needlessly scroll on my phone, just pick up a book instead.

Great to have another teacher in the mix! I find they often have great insights to bring to discussions.

A self described web-geek I ran an LLC that developed websites, wrote content, and consulted on marketing. You can see my publications and books at WayneAEnglish.com.
This group is great. I look forward to being a member here.

Thanks Abigail

Love, war, drama, mystery, all wrapped in one book!
Thank y'all!

May I suggest the following book: From Fall to Spring

I'm currently reading Cold Peace: A Novel of the Berlin Airlift by Helena P Schrader. I recently finished All The Light We Cannot See, which is excellent, and I am always... always reading Jodi Taylor's series The Chronicles of St Mary's; it is my comfort-read; a literary duvet day. Thank you for writing it, Jodi!
I'm looking forward to getting to know all you Fictionistas.

Good for you, Mariana; become an avid reader! You will learn more about things of lasting value, and you will develop a more grounded view on life if you read books... of all sorts. If you must scroll, scroll through online booksellers... a much more rewarding rabbit-hole to go down!

Oh! Jules! THANK YOU for the heads up on that Historical Novel Society Conference ! I don't travel much (I live in Devon, so who needs to travel!) I look forward to your presentation at the conference; I would like to learn more about the Merovingian dynasty... I only know of it through The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail.

I'm member 14040! I'm Alessandro, from Italy.
I'm a graduate student of Anglo-American and Spanish American literature, but I also love to read about (and from) the British Isles, Scandinavia, the African diaspora...
Recent historical fiction favourites include Hamnet, Matrix, The Essex Serpent... I like historical fiction with a literary bent: José Saramago and Alejo Carpentier come to mind. In fact my next programmed book falls within this field: Tu sueño imperios han sido.
I'll keep an eye on this group's activities!

Welcome to the group. I see you like historical fictions, but the one book I'd like to recommend you is not in the geographical locations you have mentioned. It's about Iran, if you decide to give it a try, I hope you enjoy it.
Kind rgeards,

I LOOOOVE "Ensayo sobre la ceguera" by José Saramago. One of my favorites!

Thank y'all!"
Totally agree!

Currently, I'm researching and writing a novel set in 17th-century Dutch Manhattan, based on records of my ancestors.
With the Vulgar History podcast's book club, I'm currently reading The Tower by Flora Carr about Mary Queen of Scots' imprisonment in Lochleven Castle.

Ancestral fiction is a favorite of mine! Especially French Huguenots, since I have many connections in my own lineage. Added your books to my TBR list! That conference sounds amazing too!
