"What kind of things?" Rosalind raised an eyebrow, chuckling a little to herself. "Castle... stuff." She blushed and ate more soup.

"Oh, yes, we have so many balls. One for every event you can think of. Someone's born, we have a ball. The king sneezes, we have a ball," Rosalind said with a laugh. "And I am supposed to attend all of them."

"If only you knew how exhausting they could be," Rosalind sighed, rubbing her temples. "It does. Everyone wants to talk to you. You speak to hundreds of royal men and women and everyone just wants one thing; to be recognized as the important one. And often with the men, one you will make a marriage alliance with." She shrugged a bit. "The royal world is superficial and... and..." She stopped suddenly, face drawn. "I'm sorry. I'm being so negative."

"It does, but I'm born into royalty so that's what's expected," Rosalind murmured. "It's not fair for you two to have to listen to my negativity." She went back to eating her soup.

"I guess not right now," Rosalind gave a small chuckle. "Maybe I just need to stay hidden for longer." She grinned a little, but still felt a bit sad underneath. She just hoped the rest of the village would have escaped to safety under the king's soldiers. There was nothing she could do to go back and save them herself, not when she was still recovering. But maybe she'd find a way.

"It was wrong for me to run," Rosalind sighed, glancing once towards his face before looking away. She shrugged. "If I survive but everyone else, or many of my people die..." She shook her head and stood suddenly, moving away from the table and heading to the door at a faster pace than she would have thought was possible with her injuries.

But Rosalind hadn't seen his gesture and hardly paid attention to his words. She stumbled out of the small cabin and onto the pathway, pausing once she was several yards away.

Rosalind stared out towards the trees that crept in around the property of the cabin. She sighed a little. "The longer I wait, the more people die. People who I'm supposed to protect and haven't. For all I know I should have just given in and married one of those old men just to protect them by making the alliance I'm supposed to!" She swallowed hard. "I've made so many mistakes and the guilt is eating me up."

"What if something keeps happening to the people?" Rosalind asked. She sounded very dejected. "They'll die or they won't trust me one bit to protect them later after I've abandoned them. Why should they? I can't get rid of the guilt but I can try to do better starting now." She looked at him finally, turning around.

Rosalind was stiff within the hug at first but soon loosened and hugged him back. "I don't have enough time to heal before everyone's hurt or killed."

"That's what invaders do. They kill and burn a-and a lot worse and I should be there to stop it," Rosalind murmured. She sighed, resting her head against his chest.

"Don't lie to me," she whispered, shaking her head. "They won't be okay and you can't do that. You can't tell me everyone's fine when there's a war."

Rosalind swallowed, head hanging. She didn't really want to go, but she had to help. She was no use sitting in the cabin. She needed to learn how to fight and save her people like the queen they expected her to be someday. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, shaking her head. "I just need help but I hate asking for so much."

Rosalind nodded, feeling foolish and awkward and embarrassed. But somehow Lucas wasn't judging her and that was just what she needed right now. Someone to actually understand her or at least let her have feelings. "Thank you," she whispered.

"I guess it is a little cold out here," she said quietly. She turned around and walked with him back into the cabin. Now she just felt foolish.

Rosalind went inside with Lucas and sighed, glancing up at his face. "Is there any way I can just go sleep for now?" she was feeling drained and tired with all the stress of knowing she'd failed her people. Sleeping didn't fix it, but she might heal faster and thus could try to do something after that.

Rosalind sat on the edge of the bed. Sleepiness pulled at her eyelids. "I can't really think of anything," she shrugged, then shook her head. "Thank you, Lucas. I don't deserve a friend like you or Lana." Her cheeks went pink and she glanced down at her lap.

"What's happening tomorrow?" Rosalind raised her eyebrows, curious.

"Alright," Rosalind blinked. "We'll do it in parts. Um... my mother... it's just my father now. She died when I was young."

"Oh," Lucas said. "I'm sorry about that." he said honestly. "My mom died when I was young too." he said.
((It's okay! GR is being crazy and I've been busy!))
"I'm sorry, too," Rosalind sighed a little, looking over at him. "I miss her."

He nodded, laying next to her without thinking about it. "I miss my mom too. I would say it gets easier, but it doesn't." he sighed.
Rosalind nodded. "I know it doesn't get easy. I miss her every day. Funny you can miss someone you don't even know that well."
Rosalind just nodded again. "Well, I guess I should get some sleep."
