What's a book you read because of Booktok, but is overhyped?

Happy Place 🫢 I keep trying Emily Henry's books, but I think they may just not be for me.
Literally all of them. The love hypothesis, the Spanish love deception, lengendborn, shatter me, these violent delights
I second These Violent Delights. I am super unsure of why folks liked it, I kept trying to remain open while reading and it was just BLAHHHH.

Dance of Thieves, If He Had Been With Me, The Summer I Turned Pretty (I know these are all pretty controversial but I could dance of thieves boring, IHHBWM poorly written, and TSITP just plain stupid.)

Belladonna, nightcircus and cruel prince (i know people have different opinions but i just don't understand the hype about the cruel prince series, i mean it mostly had politics and cardan acting like a jerk)
If He Had Been With Me. That book felt like a waste of time because nothing really happened until the very end, and the ending really wasn't even good enough to make the rest of the book worth reading.

They Both Die At The End. I thought I'd cry so hard I couldnt see (like I did in A Thousand Boy Kisses), but the sadness was overhyped.

tsitp and truly devious r so overhyped. ok y’all r saying they both die at the end and cruel prince were overhyped but in my opinion- they both die at the end was rly good (not js the sad part) and cruel prince was ok but the other books in the series were rly good and also! is dance of thieves rly bad? im reading it rn and im not sure if i should continue
@martina You can’t leave a group from the app but if you go on the goodreads website and go onto the group you want to leave it should say edit membership somewhere.
ACOTAR...it is a good series, i won't deny that, but there are far better series and books out there

I don't know how to leave a group from the goodreads app, it's easiest to do it in a web browser. Hope this helps!

The Shadow and Bone trilogy; now don’t get me wrong, I love the rest of the Grishaverse (Six of Crows is one of my favorite books) but this series in particular fell flat for me. It got so much hype/praise and all I got was 400+ pages of boredom. Also, Haunting Adeline — haven’t even read it and don’t plan to either

I think its officially classified as New Adult. Which totally makes sense to me. Once I knew that I liked it more.

ICEBREAKER AND WILDFIRE….. I cannot get through Hannah graces writing!! The books were so slow and everything was overly explained. I personally won’t be continuing with this series. Both books put me in reading slumps. (I read wildfire after I disliked icebreaker because I wanted to give the author another chance)
