Michele, you almost have me wondering if i began this novel or not. I did, but didn't get what you got from it, in the first 50 pages. So, i abandoned it. Reading your account, it's interesting to learn how the story went from the beginning. I was probably just befuddled by the several references to Thal (Neanderthal) beings. What? Whether it was mood or a disconnect, i abandoned the novel very quickly.
You have me reconsidering. Thank you for sharing about it with us.
The Twyford CodeFun, original, complicated mystery that leaves you with unresolved questions and a strong desire to read it again. I might do that. Certainly I will read more of these. Prompt: Mystery Rating: 4*

I love that your daughter led you to a 4 star book. Nice !
What an interesting premise for a mystery. I've added it to my TBR. Thanks for the terrific review, Michele.
Remarkably Bright CreaturesYoung adult. There are some serious issues that are raised by this story, but it is not a serious book. I think it is well written and plotted, and I think you will know where it's going long before it arrives. I give it 3+-4 stars depending on your tolerance for feeling good about small things. Also, it is about an octopus.
I have one more book to read before I will close out my year of filling prompts and reporting them. I will read more, but will just review them for GR as usual.

I liked it more than you, Michele. I gave it 4/5.
It was a Read With Book Jenna book club selection. I don't know that I would put it in the YA category. Though a teen could certainly read it. I usually associate YA with teen characters. But I could be wrong.

I read this unusually detailed and researched book about a plot to disrupt a county fair-type dairy show in very rural France by a relatively ineffective group ..."
It was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
It does sound interesting.
