Cory Woods | 2 comments I read this book about 20 years ago after picking it up at a library book sell. It is an adult fantasy novel with some characters in it that are immortal due to some type of mutation. I think it is post apocalyptic but with society becoming medieval. I think the book might have been the fourth in a series. The cover had something similar to Death Dealer, where a beast looking man on a horse was on top of a pile of bodies holding an ax or something similar. In the book there was a character who was a servant who accidentally killed some bandits attacking their convoy. His master was knocked into a coma of some sort so everyone in the party took the servant to be a soldier and put him in charge. He continued to be lucky but at the same time he trained himself with the sword. At the end of the book there was a large battle with one of the immortals in charge attacking a city. During the battle the former servant fought in a real battle without luck and won earning a medal of bravery.

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Possibly one of the Horseclans books by Robert Adams? The fourth one would be A Cat of Silvery Hue. The cover certainly reminds me of Death Dealer, and I doubt very much that's a coincidence.

I was wondering if it could be Mayer Alan Brenner's Dance of the Gods series? Catastrophe's Spell is the first book in the series. Although the title was later changed to Spell of Catastrophe. Its set in the future after an apocalypse that most people are vague about the causes of. Don't remember the former servant part, but it's been a lot of years since I read the series.

(And I will agree with Peter, that the Horseclans was a second series I thought it could be.)
