Elizabeth "Betsy" Ellis | 1 comments When I could afford them, I bought the whole Pimsleur sets on CD and used them in my car. The CD will ask you questions in the target language like "what is 4 plus 20" and give you time to respond in the target language. When you don't have anyone to converse with, it helps get you used to thinking in a conversational style and answering questions and formulating sentences. For Turkish I also used Living Language CDs on my plane ride there . I have taken Arabic and Farsi/Dari courses at several schools but found the best night schools hire profs who also teach/taught at the universities. So if you look at a school, ask for the resumes of the teachers.
I use Transparent Language and Drops apps for vocabulary acquisition, and good old textbooks. Books are not all great though either... Best to find another learning the same language and ask for their recommendations or ask the schools which books they use. For Arabic, knowing about the Hand-Wehr dictionary means you know what is what as it is the preferred dictionary of everyone I know.
I also help people on hinative.com and you might find some help there. You can try online meetups if you are conversational already.
I love songs and song lyrics... I look up the lyrics, practice writing them in the target language and writing the translations. Sing in the shower in the target!

rae (jurdan's version) ikd if this'll help but I'm in highschool so I can do dual-enrollment with a community college and so I can take free college classes and that's where I do my language :)

Stella 🍉 | 369 comments I use Duolingo and I also try to watch tv shows in French (the language I’m currently learning). I also have a class at school and talking with other people really helps!

i’m studying russian & english in university, so i’m kinda learning the basics in class ( but a really good textbook might do well enough! ), but then duolingo is what really helps me between classes, with exercises & lexical items

Annabella | 39 comments I learn French at school, but I don't think I've learned anything from my teacher, I mostly listent to podcasts, read French books (Harry Potter is good cos I've read it so many times) and talk to my grandfather who's fluent in a tonne of languages. Podcasts are really helpful, cos you can speed them up or slow them down depending on your level and they introduce tonnes of new vocab and you can learn the accent

message 15: by soso (cabin 7) (new)

soso (cabin 7) | 2 comments i am currently learning my second target language, German, on a free goverment resource called Deutsch Welle! It has tons of lessons divided by level of fluency, exercices and lots of other tools for each lesson. But for memorizing all that I've learned in a study session, I like to build my set of flashcards on Quizlet. Listening to podcasts, such as Slow German, have helped me a lot too!! With my pronunciation practice, I like to use a technique called "Shadowing" which consists on watching a video in your target language and repeating out loud the words, until you get them right.

Hope I've helped, good luck on your language lerning journey!
