I could give her a pass because she was so young and would lose a lot. I am so amazed that Andrew just didn't know who she really was. And continued to love her to the end of his life. I'm not sure narcissistic people like Simone have a concept of anything beyond themselves and what they want. She got the lifestyle she wanted, money. Deserve it? Probably not but she was born to it.
I'm actually surprised she went back to her family. Her friend described her as wild. She pulled the wool over Andrew's eyes long enough to have a child with him. She didn't think Andrew would be a success, so she left. I'm just shocked she didn't already have a reputation at home as a wild child that the family would have to work to clean up in the press. People have long memories about stuff like that.
When Cordie was young, tracking people, especially across the globe, was challenging. Simone had an ID and didn't give Andrew Kane any reason to suspect she wasn't who she said she was. Today, it is easy to search the internet for a picture. Once Simone left the US, she never considered following up on Andrew or Cordelia. She wrote the off immediately. Since she spent her misspent youth in another country, her escapes would only get back to Australia if someone suspected something.
I agree, Robin. She's described as a "wild child"...how does one hide that in the long run? And you'd think a wild child would have taken off in the wild blue yonder instead of trudging back home to daddy. It was the money, of course, but still it doesn't jive with this description of her.
