I agree, this was a good book :)

Maia Matson (maiamatson) | 77 comments Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey. It's not your typical first contact trope and I absolutely loved it.

I read the whole series... and I watched the TV series. Couldn't agree more!

Does he have any full length novels or only short stories?

Thanks. I actually read this years ago. I gave it 5 stars but I didn't write a review and today I don't really remember it. I've enjoyed other books by Blake Crouch and I just made a new tag for myself... "Read Again"

Susanne | 102 comments Definitely Project Hail Mary. Rocky is such a great character. Not everything is out to annihilate the human race on first contact!

Christine Arella (nee Clack) (clack) | 2 comments I guess this doesn’t really add anything other than support for what other folks have said, but Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

Denice Langley Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir is not just an excellent sci fi....first contact book....it's one of the best books I've read in a very long while and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent read, no matter the genre.

message 19: by Ivana (new)

Ivana I know his books are old now and most of the things he wrote about aren't really 'sci-fi' anymore but Jules Verne's books are what got me into sci-fi in the first place

I am reading recommendations from this list and Just finished Sheri Tepper's Fresco. I haven't written the review yet. Frankly, I haven't quite figured out what I think about the book but a BIG thank you for the recommendation.

Jules Verne is a winner but don't forget Frank Herbert. His titles contain much more than Dune, but Dune, especially the first three or four books, cannot be beaten when it comes to thrilling sci-fi

Currently reading book #1. About half way through. Thanks for the recommendation. A bit confusing at first, the book is definitely growing on me!

I'm systematically reading my way through the titles others have suggested but so far, I agree.... No first contact book has been better, in my opinion, than Hail Mary.

Still, I would love to be wrong so, if anyone has any other First Contact trope that they really, really loved... I'm paying attention and will probably give it a try!

Thank you. Took me a moment to locate (It's in the Burning Chrome anthology.) I've read quite a bit of William Gibson but have never heard of this one. Currently reading Foreigner. I'll read this one next.
