Robyn | 150 comments Again, a place to discuss the second section of Shattered Pillars. Avoid spoilers, please!

Lindsay | 546 comments I felt that this section highlights the benefit of the new POV characters with excellent stuff in Tsarepheth from Hong and Tsering. The Aezin healer Ashra's quiet bravery in the face of an horrific fate is a nice emotional note.

The twin-souled Saadet is far more interesting than when we were following her brother alone in the first book.

It's also good to finally get some characterisation of Qori Buqa as well. It's like Temur in different clothes. The similarities between these two are far more than what divides them.

The only new POV character that's leaving me cold at this point is Yangchen. We start her narrative with an internal confession of arranging to have one of her husbands killed by his brother and it doesn't get much better. This whole section is her putting a brave face over her guilt ...

Justine (justine_ao) Yangchen is like so many of the other characters though; she is revealed slowly and her revelation is essentially that she has done something terrible and so now what is she going to do with it? Like other characters, there is more to come with her (although admittedly not all in this book but carrying on in Steles of the Sky).

That is what I ultimately like so much with this story...everyone is developed in a much more nuanced way. I completely agree with you that Saadet has become much more interesting. Her growth is something to watch indeed.

Robyn | 150 comments Ashra rather broke my heart - the missed connection with Temur while he is with her own father is so poignant.

Reading 'the twins' singular is fantastic. Occasionally confusing, but fantastic.
