Why does Alex kill Julius Grief when Horowitz had mentioned that the editor wouldn't let Alex kill?

Amy In the tenth year anniversary edition, Horowitz talks about ideas for gadgets, names, locations and stuff for the books. He had mentioned that his editor would not let Alex kill anyone.. so why did they approve of the idea to let Alex shot Julius Grief in the head, therefore killing him?

Sic Transit Gloria I also seem to remember that in Point Blank, Alex kills the antagonist by ramming a helicopter with a snowmobile. Plus, didn't Alex kill his clone after that? It's not a unique incident, it seems. Maybe the editor decided that killing was a necessary evil?

If I understand what, who and when you're talking about correctly, when the clone was thrown in the fire at Alex's school, he lived... that's how he appeared in the final book... he survived.

And I think you have a point about the killing of the antagonist...

Jason Shaneyfelt I know I'm a little late to this party, but I saw this discussion and had to laugh because Anthony says he's against Alex killing anyone but Alex intentionally kills a ton of people throughout the series.
1. He kills Mr. Grin in Stormbreaker by setting off the smoke bomb that causes his plane to crash.
2. He kills Dr. Grief in Point Blanc by ramming his helicopter with a snowmobile
3. He pushes Damian Cray out of the plane in Eagle Strike
4. He kicks a guard into a poison plant in the Poison Dome in Crocodile Tears
5. He plants explosives onto a fuel drum and then rolls the fuel drum over to Desmond McCain in Crocodile Tears
6. He hides the scorpion in the pack of cigarettes, causing it to sting Eric Gunter. After Gunter is stung, Alex kills Gunter by beating him to death with his own pistol in Scorpia Rising
7. And of course he shoots Julius Grief in the head in Scorpia Rising
8. In the new book, Never Say Die, Alex kills the Grimaldi twins by throwing a flask full of diesel down the smokestack of the train, causing it to explode
There's probably more that I have missed and Alex has killed even more people unintentionally
