Fourth Wing
question
Overrated or Actually a good read ?
Overrated but definitely not bad. It’s not even remotely original and the plot twists are predictable but I was still super hooked.

honestly both, its overrated but a good read for what it is. It's not anything revolutionary and takes a lot from books in the genre, but it's fun and a good introductory book for those who primarily read romance that want to get into fantasy!
Its only overrated for how much attention it got, very few books I feel would stand up to that kind of hype.

I really enjoyed it around the chapter under the tree with the marked ones and Xaden. Before I wasn't a big fan becouse I just didn't got into the book. But after that chapter the book just really got me and I coudnt put it away. I had like a roller coaster of emotions. Sometimes I wanted to trow the book out of the window and sometimes I had the 'Ahww' moment. So yea i really think its really not over rated
I think this is a good read, maybe a bit overrated though. Book 2 in this series is nowhere near as good as this one and was rlly disappointing.
This book was soooo overrated. I wrote a whole rant review of it on my blog because I honestly don't understand how people liked it.
So, I have to agree about it being predictable. It was a good book, but you're able to guess everything that happens chapters before it does. I don't think it's a bad book, in fact I really liked the first one. But, is it overrated? I would say yes.
I was caught bu the hype and at the end it was just that, hype on social media.
Absolutely loved this 100% will recommend forever. It was my first fantasy and I was so apprehensive but I loved it, I read it within 2 days easily. If I wasn't in Uni I would've smashed it out in one day, easily. I am not sure what the rest of the series will hold but Fourth Wing and Iron Flame were phenomenal.
I felt like the first 50-60% of the book was amazing. But the last bit turned into mostly a romance with tons of drama. The last 5% of the book had the action I missed from the beginning.
Still glad I read it though. I could imagine the world so vividly in my head. It was fun and I couldn't put it down.

Disclaimer: I read this last summer so I don't remember the entire laundry list of complaints I had about this book.
Overrated. However, I saw that on a panel Rebbeca said that she intended the book to be an introduction to fantasy which I think is a fair description. I found the world building lacking, dialogue corny and some of the characters were aggravating (more than I could tolerate lol). My main issue was that towards the end, the romance overwhelmed the story and forfeited the plot (almost) entirely.
Despite this, I decided to read Iron Flame and I liked it way more. But I think that's just because Fourth Wing set a low bar and anytime I had a slightly critical thought about Iron Flame I immediately shut it down and decided to just enjoy the vibes lol.

overrated as hell paired with painful monologues disguised as good writing with unoriginal ideas
I only started reading this book because it was on my TBR list, but honestly it met all of my expectations, loved it, such a good book.
I didn't love the war part (I never do) but it's so witty and funny, so much sexual tension.
Also loved the idea of the riders talking to their dragons telepathecally.
There are so many funny moments that make you LOL and giggle and kick your feet in the air.
Anyways, loved it. would defenetly recommend. absolutely not overated.

I don't care what anyone says—this book hit me with all the feels. I loved every single page and every character, and I can't wait for the next one. In my opinion, it wasn't overhyped at all. It's undoubtedly one of my favourite series.
%100 overrated. The popularity of poorly written novels is a just a testament to the increasingly low reading scores we are seeing in schools. The characters, like the writing, are immature and stereotypical. I once heard that the algorithm for TikTok was specifically coded in the US to put forth low IQ content. In regards to BookTok, I can say that this seems to be the case. Either modern writers have gotten very lazy or they are simply not as talented as their predecessors and are mirroring the decline of literature.
Reading the comments, it seems like lots of people found it overrated but these books are literally my roman empire. I can't get enough. I loved Fourth Wing and Iron Flame (I can't relate to the hate on the second one). There were times the characters' choices made me crazy but that's just part of their story... sometimes my own choices make me crazy! I recently finished re-reading both books in preparation for #3. I'll always recommend!
i think its very overrated and slighty boring because of the constant weird tension
It's somehow both. It's overhyped, not over the top original, but it still got me hooked and kept me engaged and had some fun reading it.
SO overrated I don't get the hype? its not super bad or anything but not worth it

A little bit overrated i think. I expected so much cuz of the hype but i have to say it didn't live up to it. But definitely not a bad read.
And have to say, this reminded me a lot of other fantasy books i have read so far.... I finished "iorn flame" recently and have to say when the ending came it felt so similar to a certain vampire book... But it's interesting and will keep you hooked up specifically in the last few chapters...

I think this was actually a good read. It quickly became one of my favorite books. Personally, I enjoy how easy it was to get immersed in, but I will admit I do not require complexity to get into a book. It does end on a cliffhanger, as does the sequel. It did annoy me that both of the books ended like that. It felt a little gimmicky, but I ate both of them up within 48 hours of opening them anyway.
Take a look at my ratings and read books to see if what I tend to like goes with what you do. Sometimes its best to look at what the other person is reading to see if you can gauge your opinion off of theirs.

This is actually the first book in years I finish in less than 4 days. For me, it was exactly what I needed to get back into the reading wagon. I'm currently on the 2nd book and would recommend both.
Overrated but still worth the read. It's def a fun read but I've decided to not continue the series after hearing such terrible reviews on the second book. I already found Violet pretty whiny in the first book and I cannot imagine taking more.
Overrated but definitely a good read. I can understand why everyone is so into this book even tho its nothing new and even a bit cliche at some points. The worldbuilding is quite simple but at the same time it makes things easier to understand, which allows the reader to start the book smoothly.
The characters don't have the best development but are interesting enough to get attached to them quickly and, more important, till now they haven't been the classic irrational characters that make stupid decisions and don't communicate with each other, creating innecessary problems. Maybe what I miss the most is more time with secondary characters that have a lot of potential if they get more development.
But overall, its an easy read that you won't be able to put down once you start it.

Overrated and a DNF for me. I can't stand this series compared to her other books.
This book made me laugh, made me cry, made me postpone my toilet time - I'd say it is a good book.
As someone who is just getting into reading fantasy, I really liked this book and I liked the characters and world building. I can see why someone who mainly reads the fantasy genre might not enjoy it, some parts were cliche and I skipped over some of the smut because to me it just was not my favorite. I will definitely be reading the next books when they come out.
This was the first romantasy book I ever read, so it holds a certain place in my heart, but I don't think it's particularly overrated.
Honestly, I was a bit sceptical as it is sooo hyped up on Tiktok. BUT, I must say, it did not disappoint. Not. One. Bit. So if you ask me if you should read it? Yes, yes you should.

Honestly a bit overrated. I really enjoyed reading it but I hated how horny she was. Also did I bawl my eyes out at the end? Yes. Yes I did.
I loved it. Such a good story. I am reading now Prophecy of a Vampire by Tania Gold and I must admit, it's actually better or on par with Fourth Wing. Such awesome character development and storyline. Awesome concept and best vampire story written in a long time. If you liked Fourth Wing, Check out Prophecy of a Vampire.

I think of it like this - there are some books that are like candy; they are sweet, and you enjoy them, but they don't give you any nutrition. Fourth Wing is among these "candy sweet" books. It's not ground-breaking, it won't present you with any new ideas, and it won't challenge you. But is it enjoyable? Sure. It's got all the usual fantasy romance tropes. It just depends on what you're looking for. Certainly temper your expectations, though.
I went into this book thinking highly of it and it was all that i expected. I honestly think it's a good read
