Khalid Hajeri (hajeri) | 21 comments I have yet to read a bad book published this year, but I have read a pretty bad book before that I considered to be the worst🫠

message 3: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments So far the worst books this year:

1. Fearless:Harriet Quimby
2. Behind closed Doors (B. A. Paris) sorry, but I've read better thrillers about this same topic
3.Leaving Berlin (Joseph Kanon)
4. Fuenf Freunde auf Deutsch (Lucia Marjanovic) I expected more
5. Every Frenchman has one (Olivia DeHavilland) too forced funny
6. The Other Man (Michael Bergin)
7. This Time next Year we'll be laughing (Jacqueline Winspear) an autobiography which didn't grab me at all
8. Praying for Time (Carlene Thompson) she lost her skill for writing suspenseful crime novels :(
9.Safe Haven (Patricia MacDonald) disappointing
10. The Escape Artist (Joanathan Freedland) too wordy, too little atmosphere, he repeats too much
11.The Hungry Years (William Leith) Autobiography of the time when he lost weight
12. Trouble in Paradise (Robert B. Parker) after a promising first volume, this was such a let down
13. Shattered Love (Richard Chamberlain)
14. I was a male War Bride (Henri Rochard) the Cary Grant movie is so much better
15. Where are the Children now? (Mary Higgins Clark & Alafair Burke) how I was looking forward to read this book, however, it was such a big disappointment...no suspense at all!
16. The Note (Angela Hunt) she can't write...I suggest to rather watch the TV movies with Genie Francis, they are a lot nicer

Ergo: it seems to me that only boring books get published these days/years. Literary taste becomes less and less demanding with every year.
I stick to my own 1.500+ books and simply reread them.

Nicole D. "josh and hazel's guide to not dating"
wish i could take back the time i wasted reading it

Miriam Jenner (miriamjenner) | 1 comments Although I loved Rawblood, Last House on Needless Street and Sundial, I really did not like Catriona Ward's latest Looking Glass Sound ☹️

message 6: by vickie (new)

vickie (justcallmevickie) this book technically came out in 2022 but i read it this year but "Icebreaker" by hannah grace was a total waste of time and super cringey.

Thefemalearrow | 21 comments Pobre ana. I had to read this for Spanish, and the main character was so unlikeable. I would’ve dnfed if I wasn’t forced to read it

message 9: by Pisces51 (new)

Pisces51 A Death at the Party [2023] Amy Stuart
(I could not open the book and read a sentence or two without falling asleep).

message 10: by Tanja (new)

Tanja | 315 comments For me it was a frugal wizard's handbook for surviving medieval england by Brandon Sanderson...waste of time. I think even 1 star is too generous

message 11: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla Black | 46 comments I'm sorry but it's Fourth Wing for me. This book was so over hyped to the point when I went to read it I was extremely disappointed.

message 12: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla Black | 46 comments Actually, it has to be It Ends With Us. The Ellen Diaries ruined it for me.

Aoife Stone (aoifestone) literally any CoHo book, woman needs to be put behind bars

message 16: by Emma (new)

Emma | 112 comments I could not get through Six of Crows. I had to stop reading it because I just was not invested in the characters. I think it used trauma as a crutch for making the characters actually root-for-able and the fact that all of the characters had very overly dramatic backstories just made me care less. I'm glad other people like it, though.

I dnfed Six Of crows 3 Times before i finally completed it this year, because of the hype and i have to say, it's not bad. The second book in the series is even better. I think you should wait for the right time to read it. It's not bad.

honestly Anna and the French kiss. (it had cheating involved, and it was justified) the guy who was dating this serious gf had thought of Anna everyday since he had met her. it was so shit and overhyped.

Shiro Ngoci (shirongoci) | 44 comments Flames of chaos by Amelia Hutchins. I'm still traumatized.

message 23: by Mood (new)

Mood Reader (simplymoodreading) | 6 comments The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter. It is THE book that will make me question a person's taste in book if they say they love it😅😅

FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO AGREES WITH ME ON THIS!!!!

It wasn't a good book, and Liz was insufferable.

Thanks, Christine. I'll take your advice on skipping #14 and viewing the film instead.

Vanessa, I could get the book through Inter Library Loan at our public library. I'm glad I didn't spend money on it.

message 31: by Henna_UwU (new)

Henna_UwU | 99 comments Gallant by V.E. Schwab, which surprised me since it won a Goodreads award last year. I just think the language wasn't great, the plot dragged on, the characters were flat, and the ending was super uninteresting. Boo.
