message 2: by Austin (Weird) (last edited Dec 05, 2023 12:40PM) (new)

Austin (Weird) (weirdwashere1) without lyrics and usually I don't like to read with music

Bella(✨❤️Hopeful Romantic❤️✨) | 251 comments No because then I get too caught up in the music and start singing. Classical music is more doable but it tends to put me to sleep more.

message 4: by tania (new)

tania | 62 comments no cause I get distracted pretty easily I should be studying now...

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually read in silence. However, if it's very loud around me, I'll put on headphones with some music that doesn't come with lyrics, usually classical music.

message 6: by modeziree. (new)

modeziree. (wheredowegonow) it doesn't really matter to me lol i usually just tune it out anyways

message 7: by Killua (new)

Killua | 364 comments for my it depends on the book. sometimes i listen with lyrics but i just put the volume low on the background.

message 8: by BethK (new)

BethK | 17 comments Without. Music, or any particular sounds are distracting, although I will tune them out. Words or talking takes effort to tune out. If music is playing, I want something without words.

message 9: by Kanomi Okina (new)

Kanomi Okina ||Emily the Seraphim|| (goodreadscomkanomi_okina) | 100 comments Depends on the book.

message 10: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline (applejacksbooks) Both but more so with ambient music. Youtube has a ton of awesome vibe playlists/lo-fi lives you can use to help focus. Absolutely love the medieval lofi one.

message 11: by Toni (new)

Toni Cavanagh (tonijoanne) | 1 comments Without, I use ambience videos in the background - usually a cozy fireplace

message 12: by Delena (new)

Delena | 0 comments Doesn't matter with or without lyrics if it matches the vibe of the book I'm game. For me it heightens my reading experience and the lyrics don't really bother me when im immersed in the book.

message 13: by Hamsitha (new)

Hamsitha Momidi | 4 comments I mean, sometimes I do but not all the time.

message 14: by Kay-Mika (new)

Kay-Mika With music or else my concentration says goodbye.
Heck, I can even have the TV running, knit and read a book.
So ,yeah.. always with .

message 15: by Bea (new)

Bea (hellomissbea) Ambient music and like lofi music without lyrics.

message 16: by Sam (new)

Sam K (zutara123) | 251 comments not usually. i usually have my tv running in the background but i tune it out while reading.

message 17: by meg (new)

meg | 2 comments Without! Sometimes I get annoyed with my bf for playing music because it doesn’t fit with whatever I’m reading 😂

literally no one's here you moron | 43 comments not usually, I can't really focus on reading if there's music. sometimes i do anyway though

Caroline | 13 comments Misha wrote: "I usually read in silence. However, if it's very loud around me, I'll put on headphones with some music that doesn't come with lyrics, usually classical music."

Yes Ditto!

Regina the Constant Reader (queenofslackers) | 64 comments Without. I use a rain app.

message 21: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments This afternoon we were listening to traditional Christmas songs on Sirius XN satellite radio while I was reading Carol Drinkwater's fifth Olive Farm sequel and my husband read his Kindle.
I like to listen to swing or jazz or classical music while reading. Life is too short to do only one thing at a time. I like to combine both. :)

message 22: by Tenaya (new)

Tenaya | 3 comments I like to listen to soundtracks while I read.

message 23: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Crotty | 4 comments I use the ambient Playlist on YouTube while I read. so relaxing!

message 24: by Beppie (new)

Beppie Instrumental music only, as anything with lyrics always makes my focus on reading difficult to maintain! The struggle is real! Lololol

message 25: by laura (hiatus) (new)

laura (hiatus) I always have to have some sort of sound on in the background so I have a show or music on while I read

message 26: by Jane (new)

Jane Fudger | 44 comments I need to be quiet when I read. Although I enjoy music it irritates me when I read - I usually end up reading the same sentence several times!

cel ☆˖˚⊹ Jane wrote: "I need to be quiet when I read. Although I enjoy music it irritates me when I read - I usually end up reading the same sentence several times!"

Same, I always want to have soft instrumental music playing in the background but the truth is I always have to turn it off eventually because it's so distracting.

message 28: by Killua (new)

Killua | 364 comments sometimes you have playlist on youtube for a book. a few weeks ago i read the house in the cerulean sea. and i found a playlist with the title of the book.

( a house in the cerulean sea reading playlist lofi, chill music)

is what its called.

and i try to find playlist that really vibes the book.

I'm currently reading the book (camp) by L.C Rosen. and i use the playlist

( im having a proper full on gay crisis || a heartstopper playlist)

for this book.

so i need my music for some books :))

message 29: by Rew (new)

Rew (rewsalem) | 109 comments depends on the scene

message 30: by Shiro (new)

Shiro Ngoci (shirongoci) | 44 comments I usually play an old TV show I've watched as background noise

Noel ◇So Dance, Dance Like It's The Last, Last, Night Of Your Life, Life, Gon' Get You Right◇ (noel4444) | 46 comments I listen to songs that sometimes suit the scenes and make Playlists for every book I read lol

Dang.
For example?

message 34: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I can even focus on reading when my husband sits next to me and watches the Red Sox or Patriots. :)

message 35: by SeaofBooks3 (new)

SeaofBooks3 (busymom3) | 1 comments with. adhd. can't read or clean without music or movie/TV show playing.

message 36: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Currie | 37 comments Depends on my mood to be honest. i can read with or without music

message 37: by Hope (new)

Hope Austin | 10 comments Stay In Bed playlist on Spotify! Very calm music

message 38: by Dee (new)

Dee Turner | 17 comments I never, ever, read to music; it inhibits my mind's camera, in which I create my own scenes! (Sometimes when I'm knitting lace, I listen to classical--without lyrics, of course--as the only way to keep count.)

message 39: by Paola A (new)

Paola A Sánchez (alecals96) Definitely, as long as it goes with the theme of the book. I have Spotify playlists separate by genre, and individual books. Then I remember parts or feelings I got from a story when I listen to some of those songs randomly.

message 40: by Alisha (new)

Alisha Goldstein | 50 comments Doesn't matter to me as its background music anyway. But I also have this weird thing that I can listen to the same song on repeat for hours especially when reading.

message 41: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessacumberlandcountypa) Christine wrote: "I can even focus on reading when my husband sits next to me and watches the Red Sox or Patriots. :)"

Christine, I am impressed! I often am reading when my husband is watching the news and I read the same sentence over and over...

Jane wrote: "I need to be quiet when I read. Although I enjoy music it irritates me when I read - I usually end up reading the same sentence several times!"

I prefer the quiet like you do, Jane. If I do listen to music it has to be instrumental.

message 42: by Claudia :) (new)

Claudia :) (celaureads) | 46 comments with music. I usually search the playlist in spotify with the same title as the book I read

message 43: by karissa m (new)

karissa m | 139 comments I mostly read with music. I struggle with background noise so I find that piano music helps me stay focused on reading.

.⋆。⋆☂˚。 Polaris ⋆。˚☽˚。⋆. With classical piano

message 45: by Manini (new)

Manini | 3 comments Definitely with music. I immerse myself too much into the book to care most of the times anyways.

message 46: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments Polaris wrote: "With classical piano"

I like that, too!

message 47: by Aly (new)

Aly (lyanarty) | 42 comments I used to listen to ost instrumentals but then it would mess up my mental movie playing in my head when I read especially on the climax parts so I kust prefer dead silence and no background noise😂

message 48: by Sam (new)

Sam M With music, can't read without the background noise of music or a public place

message 49: by Elythrim (new)

Elythrim I get distracted easily so no music with words lol but I sometimes like reading while listening to classical/fantasy/game stuff! It makes the scenarios more movie-like :)

disa⸆⸉ ౨ৎ | 19 comments I want to be a reading with music girlie so bad but I just can’t concentrate on the book if I have music ahahaha
