Christina T (crysteena73) | 337 comments Ok only 4% into it and I knew it was a Grumpy/Sunshine trope (which I love) but it also has a Parent Trap vibe. I adore that movie and all the remakes and the not so good part 2 and 3 and the Mary Kate and Ashley It Takes Two! Anyway, I have to go to work now so I'll not get back to the book until break time ☹️

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1475 comments I didn’t notice that either but I’m really digging it! I don’t know if you’re listening to audio but it’s dual narration and the narrator selection for each is PERFECT. It embodies sunshine and grumpy so much.

I’m on ch. 12 (yay for everyone sleeping in so I get some reading time lol) and this is just such a feel good holiday book. I’m really loving it. I think my favorite part so far was the hot cocoa scene

Christina T (crysteena73) | 337 comments I bet the audio is great. I couldn't get it through my library or free with my audible plus so I'm reading it myself.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 337 comments Through Chapter 10 (25%)...

It's quite a complex Grumpy/Sunshine trope. Our Sunshine is a big faker and our Grumpy is doing the most wonderful thing I've ever read about.

I have so many questions though.... why is the bakery broken? When will Paxton admit he's Bi to Nathan? Will Nathan and Becca couple up even with their dads totally going to be a couple themselves? It does look like Becca likes Nathan (maybe not as a love interest but at least in a friendly short of way.) With Becca being a "popular" girl in school and Nathan being pretty a awkward it's nice that she's written the way she is. All the main characters are really fleshed out well.

Ugh! I have an appointment in 6 hours and need to sleep yet! I don't want to put the book down! 😭

Christina T (crysteena73) | 337 comments My favorite scene so far was the sledding. Baxter wasn't going to go. He was going to make Paxton go and then while the 3 of them were at the bottom of the hill Baxter was going to sneak back into the house and pretend to be dead.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1475 comments I finished and loved it! I agree that it kinda took the typical grumpy/sunshine trope and turned it on its head which made for a much more interesting read! A lot of well written steamin the latter half as well

I don't think the Bakery question was answered? Or I missed it. But I really enjoyed how they handled everything else!

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1475 comments I haven't peeked yet but who do you think gets book 2? I'm assuming it's one of Paxton's brothers

I haven't peeked either but I'm really interested in reading the next book. I'm not sure when I'll be able to work it in though. I bet it's Paxton's brother Trent. He made a comment about Baxter being good looking or something like Paxton was one lucky guy being with Baxter.

message 11: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 337 comments It didn't really answer the broken bakery question. It did mention Baxter bought it knowing it needed work. Also he needed a new freezer which was Ten thousand dollars. I wouldn't think a freezer would make the whole bakery unusable though. I'd think the walk-in cooler would be more dire than a freezer for a baker. But 🤷‍♀️

I loved it too! I loved the complexity of the characters. For a holiday themed sweet romance finding these kind of characters is unusual but very welcome. I also was all for the spicy. I was surprised by the Sexy times as I was really expecting a Hallmark movie type of book.

Wait this is such a good point lol. A freezer just makes things more convenient, but you can do fridge only (I would assume)

Yes! A lot of times holiday books are just sweet and fluffy (which I adore), but this was a lot more. It's my first by the author too so I'm excited to read more.

Truitt_T | 1371 comments I just wanted to chime in and say that I read this one back in late October (I got an early start on Christmas cheer this past year) and thought it was fun - not just sweet and fluffy, as you said, Amanda.

I'm open to other MM buddy reads - perhaps I can join you in the future?

message 16: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 337 comments Truitt the more the merrier! If I can get it from KU I'll read it. I'm letting Amanda zero in on potential buddy reads because I've only been reading mm romances for a little more than a year so most suggested books would be new to me. If you have anything you're wanting to read that we could buddy up on give us a shout!

message 17: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments Thanks, Christina! I've only been reading MM romance for a few years, myself. I'll keep an eye on the Buddy Reads request threads. :)
