DaveC426913 The stuff I like to read has dried up.

I mostly like hard-ish sci-fi - adventurous, first-contact stuff, including planetary colonization / gen-ships stuff. - but not military or empire politics stuff.

As noted, Ringworld is my fave (Wouldn;t let me post this without listing a book).

My fave authors: Larry Niven, Robert J. Sawyer, Stephen Baxter, Greg Bear, Kim Robinson, Alistair Reynolds, Andy Weir, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Martha Wells, Becky Chambers, Verner Vinge...

It bugs me that every list or category always lumps sci-fi and fantasy together. I very much do not like the loosey-goosey rules of most magical fantasy. That's why I prefer sci-fi.

But I've tried to make forays out of my very small comfort zone. China Mieville has blown the top off my tiny little mind, with Kraken and RailSea (but I'm less interested in Perdido Street Station, Embassytown, City and the city, etc.)

I read the occasional modern fantasy (Midnight Library, The Cartographers) but it's really hard for me to venture into this area on my own.

The blurbs they write for books on Goodreads and KoboBooks just don't grab me.

I browse book recos a lot and pickins have gotten thin, so you likely won't come up with something that hasn't already shown up on my radar.

Asking for help, either find more in my comfort zone, or find some escape from it.
