I haven't watched yet - had my Subdue 2nd 6+5 book to finish and review. You can do yours, Amy! I did mine despite an insance work schedule!

Amy | 12911 comments I have done 21 of the final papers and I have another 18 left. And only five days or four days left to do them. So the nesting doll has suffered. Then it’s my wicked 11 book. I will not share TAR spoilers!

And also put me down for buddy read of #8 Women Talking and #13 Heaven and Earth Grocery Store :)

I will get my list posted soon.

Jen (jentrewren) | 1114 comments does anyone have any advice for how to get goodreads to go back to normal on my laptop. I've checked it is on desktop version but it has suddenly (overnight a couple of weeks ago it happened) turned into a list all crammed in down the left of the page. needless to say it is impossible to use as is and I'm trying to do everything on the phone (which I've now activated gr on because the laptop was so bad) which is much harder.

message 106: by Jen (new)

Jen (jentrewren) | 1114 comments and I'm not on the list but did say a while ago that I will be doing TRIM again. It is the only challenge I've finished the last couple of years while life has sucked, and probably the only one I'll complete next year too because it is so flexible.

message 107: by Jen (new)

Jen (jentrewren) | 1114 comments I have SEE What I Have Done on my list too which I have moved to 23 in case Book Concierge would like to do a buddy read? it is one of the options I had on the 22/23 list but didn't get to so a bit of motivation to get it done would be good.

Wow, that is terrible! I have no idea what could be causing that. Only thing I would try is opening GR in a different browser than you are currently using. If GR opens normally then it is probably a browser glitch.

message 109: by Jen (last edited Dec 15, 2023 08:02AM) (new)

Jen (jentrewren) | 1114 comments thanks....I tried that.

Fixed by disabling some weird netskope thing school put on my laptop when they "fixed" it. Have to turn it back on for work and work email but turn it off for goodreads apparently.

I was also gifted Lessons in Chemistry from the other chemistry teacher at school yesterday (along with some kraft beer in a paper gift bag, then promptly got caught in a storm on the way to the car with a carton of beer on my shoulder my bag on my other shoulder and the gift bag in my hand. The bag disintegrated and the bottom fell out and smashed in a puddle while I was left holding just the handles.......my book now smells of beer but is still readable) so if you would like to share a buddy read I can have a stinky read with you.

I also do a couple of options for each number so we can confirm nearer the time if you prefer?

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12565 comments I have finalized my list (buddy read for Valley Forge is still there) Post # 5, I have added another book for each number so that I have a choice

message 112: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11664 comments Not sure if I'll have my list done until after Christmas (which is likely when I'll do most of my 2024 challenge planning). Though this one will probably be easier, as I'll likely just use titles I didn't read from my Subdue list.

I really do want to get longer-term books from the tbr read, so I don't think I've ever done any of the buddy reads.

I don't usually plan on buddy reads since I have six in-person book clubs to read for, but I'm not opposed. So this might work.

Amy | 12911 comments I tentatively signed up for one with you as well.

message 115: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments Jen M., Unless you do not want to be, Ursula (our Charm name for the Randomizer or Spinner) has picked you to be our first Trim Picker for January. Should you choose to accept, once the monthly tag for January is announced, (usually on the 22nd), you can either choose which number is the number for everyone to read, or to just randomize, or randomly pick. By that time, we will have an official thread to announce. Sometimes, a person will make a choice that's on their list that matches the monthly tag. People pick however they like, if there is something they are in the mood for. Are you up for the challenge?

Theresa | 15500 comments @Amy - not sure you saw, between grading papers, reining in Sparkles, speed reading Subdue, and Hannukah/Holiday activities, the fact that KTLovestoListen has diasappeared from GR entirely, just as Katelovestoread did earlier in year. Been some discussuion at the oddness of such erasure of presence on GR, and similarity of personalities and names.

You will want to remove her from list of participants.

I'm still not on the list either.....Not sure if you are just getting confused with so many Jens or if you haven't noticed my 4 attempts to say I'd like to be?

message 118: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments Yes Jen I really did mean to put you on the list. It’s been a rather crazy time, so please forgive the slip. I’m really glad you are joining us.

I did not include our missing Kate when I put all the names in to randomize them for the next cycle, although I do have Purple Jen in there on the trim picker list. I’m not gonna include Kate when it’s time to post the new thread, but I will leave her buddy Red in case she returns.

I do the same thing, actually, both for books I have read that end up a buddy read, or just join one when it sets up because I have the book and can fit it in. I particularly like revisiting in discussion a book the levt we with opinions or questions or even just sent me downa rabbit hole on google.

Hi, Nancy. I answered over in the Subdue thread. I am planning to read one more, but by the end of this year, not necessarily by the 20th, so - for the game itself, I am done.... but for myself, I want to get to that last book. So, with the timeline, no more rolls will be happening for me. But thank you!

message 128: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments OK - taking an hour for GR catch up. I think I am caught up with Trim. Let me know if I have missed anything. I am going to post the 2024 Announcement and Community Thread by Wednesday the 20th so that Jen M is good to go, when the tag is announced. I will link this one to that one, and they will likely only compete for a short time, as soon after we get into 2024, this thread will be less useful, unless new folks wish to join us and they want to peruse all our lists and post their own in addition to the buddy reads. But we are looking good to go.

message 131: by Jen (last edited Dec 22, 2023 07:15PM) (new)

Jen (jentrewren) | 1114 comments I've gone with multiple options again.....could have had about 10 per slot tbh but left the options not chosen in 22/23 and filled the slots left by ones I had read with whatever I have that I saw first. Not sure who it was on here who suggested the Amish Vampires and Zombies but they sound very silly so I had to get them on the list. Ditto the rest of the Merde series is really silly.

Trim 2024

Amy | 12911 comments Purple Jen, I think Sally is reading Apeirogon as well. Maybe you want to connect to get it up at the same number. I didn’t recognize anything else, but maybe there were other matches that I didn’t catch? But thought you might wanna know about that one. We are all anxiously awaiting the tag, followed by the trim!!!

It is a rather rushed list. I think Lessons in Chemistry could be moved too and See What I Have Done. Just need to get my big girl pants on and go mow the lawns and whipper snip (which I truly hate doing, but last time I paid a gardening service they cut through the irrigation so I ended up paying for new parts and having to replace the irrigation as well as paying for the mowing, so as usual better off just doing it myself).

Kate NZ has Apeirogon at number 8 and Sallys has it at number 17 I had it at number 1 so I've moved it to number 17 for now since Sallys list was first. I could go with either number.

See what I have Done is at 23 for both Book Concierge and myself.

Lessons in Chemistry I have moved to number 7 where Heather Reads Books has it.

I think that is all of them but none of these are confirmed buddy reads so it is just an option if any of the others want to do a buddy read? And if work allows at the point they get picked (hence every month having the option for something short and easy to read).

message 134: by Amy (new)

Yep. I'm excited to try to get back into reading and diving for 2024. Try to get life back on track and to have things to look forward to instead of bouncing from one disaster to the next and constantly being in survival mode. We shall see.

After noticing how many books I have unread I've made a second trim list of 3 options for this year and will try to pick one from each since it is flexible. Time to have a proper TRIM.

Sounds good. I had it as an option for 22/23 and didn't do it so also need a push. Very apt for the world right now too sadly.

Amy | 12911 comments Annaressa, Welcome! I loved the Christie Affair! I also plan to read Lioness of Boston. The author is a parent in our former elementary school so she has a child just a couple of years younger than my youngest. I hear she’s very willing to do book groups around the Boston area. I happen to be stopped last Tuesday in Newton Center looking for Sympathy cards at the CVS. I stopped in front of a teeny bookstore and record store that I had never seen before. Apparently they opened up six months earlier. The owner was an old man with a boot on his foot. So I marvel at his store and talked with him and actually helped him bring all of the books from the sidewalk into the store and then I bought the lioness of Boston because I wanted to buy something in the store and I got a signed copy. Anyway, have been meaning to read it. I hear local books groups, read the book together and then discuss it and then go to see the Isabel Stewart Gardner museum together. And I think that sounds like a summer plan.
