Amy | 12911 comments We now have 23 Buddy Reads

Oliver M, I added myself to the Accidental Empress, and added you to Enter Ghost.

JoyD - all covered and I think I might join Bastard of Instanbul

Sue - Got it this time. It was there before, I have no idea how it slipped off. But we are good to go.

Booknblues | 12049 comments There are two books which I was planning to read this month, but I have a full load and might decide to do a buddy read for these two. I'll keep you posted.

Valley Forge
Tender at the Bone: Growing Up at the Table

Ooh, a buddy read with you on The Bastard of Istanbul is great!

We won't discuss how long I've had that book sitting in a TBR Tower on my nightstand.

Theresa | 15500 comments BnB -
Would love to have you join me in reading Tender at the Bone: Growing Up at the Table. Another I've had moving from TBR Tower to TBR Tower for too long. At one point I had 2 copies as someone gave me one and I'd bought a copy! Needless to say I kept the gift and gifted the one I bought.

It is supposed to be the trim for this month, but I have so many others I want to read, plus my last two birthday candles which I would be quite embarrassed not to finish. That I'm thinking I should put on the 2024 trim instead.

Amy | 12911 comments Thank you! I do have a strength in executive functioning, but I could use every bit of help in catching what I missed.

Now I am on the wrong thread for this, but Theresa and BnB are here. Speaking of, I have to figure out what number Tender on the Bone is, which shouldn't be so hard to figure. But - T and B, Survivor and Amazing Race tonight. I watched them both six days late and wanted and needed to talk to you! On TAR, I was so upset and freaking at the end of the pit stop. I couldn't breathe!!!! I was literally having a heart attack because I thought the contestant was going to have a heart attack. The person's child was screaming at the father SO much (disguised in case there is anyone left who is watching but not caught up and there is more than one of these left). Anyway, the poor guy, I really thought he was going to collapse and die on the spot and I was literally screaming!!! Its just a race! I had a heart attack myself watching this go on. The child lost all perspective and therapist mind was like, this is going to be a tough therapy with the guilt the adult child is going to have to endure! Just for my sanity, did anyone else have this reaction? Am I alone in this? I am barely recovered from that.

So I added a buddy read of Valley Forge at #10 and Tender at the Bone with Theresa at # 16.

Amy, I'm sorry I can't help you because I only watch Survivor and not TAR.

I was appalled. You are not wrong. The contrast between the 2 parent child relationships we have watched all season was at its apex in that episode. This week was a great episode btw, even though the contrast of those 2 parent child relationships was very front and center.

Did you follow that, Amy?

P.S. tender is the bone is near bottom of my list. Oh and Survivor good tonight too.

message 60: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments At tribal council now! Commercials have the poor father almost drowning! I may not be able to stomach this. How I adore the other set! I pray they win!!!!

message 61: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12049 comments I watch Survivor tomorrow night. So don't say anything.

message 62: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments Not a word. Everybody is alive on TAR. At least for now. I hope when she looks back on this that she is ashamed that the world is watching her behaving this way. I think about how we have group members who have lost people recently or who are losing people now. I think about friends of mine who are going through this with loved ones and parents. I really hope she sees this and experiences a deep level of shame and embarrassment. I hope Twitter is going wild on this.

Agree Lyn. Even taking into consideration that it is edited for drama, it is bad. Let's also remenmber that mustache and beard are also not young and have struggled but look how they keep an eye on each other.

Amy - you will be fine watching it.

We will need to talk about Survivor tribal counsel from tonight's episode.

message 65: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments I saw them both and now I’m exhausted! I’m headed off to sing this morning at Faneuil Hall for the naturalization and immigration ceremony. Which I do a couple of times a year. Absolutely no spoilers for Fran. But I will tell you I loved it and there’s a lot to talk about. This one just got so interesting. Like I really liked the episode, it was good and complicated. And I completely agree with you and Lyn about TAR. Watching the other father adult child duo is like a master class. What a beautiful parent child person to person relationship. And I do love how the best friends take really good care of one another. I also really love the brothers. It’s just that last duo, that I really cannot tolerate. I have to say that the Irish dancing challenge, I just loved it! I loved dance so that’s not a surprise, but I was just so proud of everybody. That was extremely complicated and all four contestants really pulled it off. I could not have been prouder and more excited for them. That was just a great moment!

message 66: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments I was exhausted after watching both too - these expanded episodes make for long viewing after a work day!

Irish dancing is extremely difficult! What a challenge but they also all had fun with it. I was fascinated when the one dad doing it talked about dancing being part of his and kid's life but a different type of dance so the moves were contrary to his 'muscle memory'. Fascinating.

I too love the brothers. This is a tight competition. One of tightest ever.

message 82: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments Kelly, I got many of those in there, but some I did not recognize or didn't go through the lists to find. Someone is also reading Remarkably Bright Creatures at 2, and Tom Lake at 10 - but I didn't know. I added you to a few I remembered as well. Plus art of racing in the rain and we all want impossible things.

Three of us are reading Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, but we are doing it at #13. Please switch to join us.

Some others I thought might have been buddy reads. Keeper of Lost things, Rosie Result, Next Mrs Parrish, None of this is True. Can you let me know who they are with and what number, and I will add all of these above. I do think I got the rest.

So Fun.

I’m also aware that we are going to need our January, trim picker, and the trim picker list by December 22, at least a few days before. I may need to post our 2024 announcement thread also by that time so the trim picker can start it off. And maybe for a couple of weeks will be working with two threads. But we will be ready to go, so that if new people want to join us at any time that can happen.
