Winter 23 Read-a-Thon: Team Twinkle Lights
Well, bad news, I've caught a terrible cold, but good news, I took the day off to rest and am spending the day napping and reading books! I have a couple to add to the spreadsheet once I'm feeling a bit less wobbly.
Sheena, sorry to hear you are not feeling well, I hope it passes quickly, seems like there is a lot going around right now. Once we move on to the Silver prompts I will finish up The Blue Bar. In the mean time I have started on Drowning.
Sorry for the delay but I've finished Death Comes for the Archbishop so I think we're good to move onto Silver now!
I can put Lady Osbaldestone's Christmas Goose under Christmas and A Christmas Carol under book that would be a good gift. I will have both finished soon.
Well done with the Archbishop Sophia. I don't remember that being a quick read. And commiserations on the cold Sheena.I've finished The City of Mist and slotted it in for starting with a letter in Bacon. I'm leaving off Three Women and a Boat, which I don't think has many surprises to come, as there is no space for it under Silver but plenty under Gold.
I'm more than half way through Apples Never Fall and hope to finish today. It looks like the only definite option for fruit on the cover.
I just finished my annual read of the The Best Christmas Pageant Ever which will fit for brothers. I'll pick the next to fill whatever prompt we need most.
I finished Drowning and put it under ugly cover. It seems like we are having no problem filling prompts and I am having a hard time predicting what might be most needed so will probably get started on what ever strikes my fancy as we can always use more Candy Canes.
If there is a prompt others think is likely to be a problem I change gears and try to find something that would be a fit for that.
Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday and enjoying the read-a-thon.
I'd had just the same thought Samantha of reading mostly for the candy canes.I've finished Apples Never Fall and entered it for fruit on the cover and am moving on to The Private Joys of Nnenna Maloney
Wednesday was marred by too much time spent in the freezing cold fixing a van door handle but yes I'm enjoying the Readathon and am impressed with our progress.
so good to have the fruit prompt crossed off. that seemed like a tougher on (I couldn't find anything!) I'm almost done the Appeal, not sure where it will fit but it will be good for candy canes if nothing else.
Finished Belonging: A German Reckons with History and Home and put it under "immigrant/someone migrating from their home country" which means all we've got left for Silver is "planes/brothers" or "author you've read before" (plus one more set of candy canes but I'm confident we'll crush that in no time at all.) If by some miracle I can finish this audiobook of Magic Bleeds Dramatized Adaptation before someone else gets to it I can cover the author slot but we have so many options that I think someone else will probably beat me to it. In the meantime I only realized today that my library copy of Mother-Daughter Murder Night is due...today...so time to finish that first!
I just finished one for "author you've read before". I don't have anything in mind for plane or brothers. I hope that is ok, Sophia, it sounds like you have to finish a different book anyway.
I think Sheena filled the Plane/Brother prompt. If not I can move Drowning. It might be easier to find an ugly cover.
Yes, I did, I just forgot to add to the Competed page but it's all fixed up now. I read the Best Christmas Pageant ever every year. It's a short one (one 128 pages) but centers around the Herdman family with 4 brothers. Just candy canes now and we can move on, I'm going to log my pages now for yesterday. I'm back a work for at least a half day today, but will get some pages (if a bit less than the last few sick days) later today.
We just need 145 more pages to earn a candy cane and move on. So close!! I'll pop on my audio for a bit on my way to work and see if I an bang that out this morning ...
Goodness we romped through Silver. I don't think I'll have much of a page count today but I did finish the last few pages of
Three Women and a Boat and entered it for a red cover.
Wow we did so well on Silver! I think my contribution could be a little low the for today and tomorrow. But hopefully will be able to finish A Winter in New York by Saturday and finish strong over the weekend.
*Edit - Think I will try to get El Deafo read in the next few hours.
I will be busy tonight and tomorrow. I am putting in my pages/time for today and will catch up tomorrow night.
Hi folks - sorry I’ve been low on pages the last couple days, have had a rough couple days (didn’t get a job offer I was expecting) so just lacking motivation. Hope to pick it back up in the next couple days. I certainly need the escape.

So sorry to hear about your job, Caitie, but don’t feel pressured. This is just for fun. The first time I did a Readathon, I was surprised that not only were there no prizes, but results are never even posted, such as which team finished first or read the most pages. The prize is getting books off your TBR.
At least twice in my career, I was disappointed not to get a job I was qualified for, but ended up with a much better one. I hope things turn around for you.

I've been falling asleep while trying to read each evening... it's a busy week and I am worn out! Hopefully I'll get some pages in and finish a book over the weekend.
Sorry Caitie, that sucks! HugsRobin - so true!! I often find when looking back some of the things I've been most disappointed about end up being a blessing in disguise.
Chrissy - no worries at all, finish or not any pages you add the candy canes will be awesome.
I'm still pluggin-a- way. Back a work again today but I don't have too many plans for the weekend after the workweek is finished. Cleaning and catching up from half my family being sick the past week but that's a great time for audio!
We're doing really well, especially considering we've got two no show team members. 14 books to go, 3 days left, 8 readers ... piece of cake :D
PS Re: no prizes/results ... does anyone else peak at the the other teams spreadsheets or is that just me being nosy?? LOL
Thanks everyone! I know it's probably for the best. Luckily I'm in a job now where I'm pretty happy, so I'm not in a huge rush to find something else.
Caitie I am sorry to about the job falling through but its good that you have a job you still mostly enjoy. Hope you are able to get your reading mojo back. I am still working my way through a Winter In New York. It started out being fun but I think it is longer then it needs to be so just not feeling pulled towards it. Anyway I imagine I will finish it this afternoon and then I can be on to the next!
Finally managed to finish something! I've put House of Salt and Sorrows under YA/Junior and now assuming this flu shot doesn't knock me out tomorrow I can make progress on something better! (I was originally going to use this as double duty for my Spice Girls prompt under Scary since this was supposed to be horror but mostly it was just horrifying how bad it was.)
I hope things have settled down for you Caitie.I’ve slotted The Private Joys of Nnenna Maloney into the dual timeline space and am part way through the YA sci-fi novel Voodoo Planet which is only 108 pages so should be finished this morning.
I've now finished Voodoo Planet and moved on to The Empire not least because everyone is be-hatted on the cover.
Great reading all! I just added a few more slots to our spreadsheet for all your weekend reads ;)
I finished my audio and print book and started Shipped which will crazily fit most of our open prompts (plant, hat, pet letter and new to me author!) and will finish it no problem today.
7 books to go
I read On Earth as It Is on Television, which would go under sci-fi but I see that is covered already. so I put it under larger than life character, which also applies.
Definitely bedtime but I've finished The Empire and added it for hats on cover though I'm happy for any of my books to get shifted.Looks like we might just finish this, for titles if not for candy canes.
Finished The Sandman: The Deluxe Edition, Book One and put it under dog/cat/fish and I doubt I'll finish Magic Bleeds but it'll be good for candy canes. Only 4 more prompts left!
I finished Black Cake last night and added it as a new to me author! Next up Searching for Sylvie Lee.
I’ve got about 2 hours left in Bookshops & Bonedust, for 3 word title… unless someone beats me to it!
And I’ve started The Walled Garden for all the plants on the lovely cover. Which would finish it. Go us!
Joyce wrote: "And I’ve started The Walled Garden for all the plants on the lovely cover. Which would finish it. Go us!"Sheena put Shipped for plants on the cover, so we've just got Chrissy's book and the last set of candy canes. I know we're not going to get to any platinum prompts since it's the last day but I'm curious to see if we could have filled any!

I didn't realize there were platinum prompts!
I should finish The Liar's Girl sometime this afternoon.
We can probably see the platinum prompts by checking a thread from one of the other groups that got to it. I think we did very well getting through the 3 levels since some of the prompts were quite specific.
Yes, agree! team snowflake got access a few days ago. Here's the list for anyone who is curious. I think all these prompts have been great. I may continue on on my own after the challenge and see what else I can check off just for fun
Platinum Level:
January 21: National Hugging Day - Read a book that feels warm and cozy
January 22: National Blonde Brownie Day - Read a book with a blonde or brunette female on the cover
January 23: National Handwriting Day - Read a book whose title looks handwritten on the cover
January 24: Global Belly Laugh Day - Read a humorous book
January 25: Opposite Day - Read a book with a mostly black and white cover
January 26: Australia Day - Read a book set in Australia
January 27: Collect 8 Candy Canes
January 28: Data Privacy Day - Read a book where technology plays a large role
January 29: National Puzzle Day - Read a book with a geometric pattern on the cover
January 30: Collect 8 Candy Canes
January 31: Inspire Your Heart with Art Day - Read a book featuring a character who is involved in the arts
I'm reading The Running Grave; a whopper of 960 pages so definitely wont finish but I'll add my pages (214 so far today) now so we can cash in our candy canes :)Just 1 book with a three letter title left to go and it looks like Samantha, Joyce and Chrissy all have possible options ...

Hmm, a couple of those are hard, we had handwriting on the cover and geometric pattern as a regular prompt and they were a bit challenging.
I finished a book but it will just go for pages.

Kudos to Sheena who read as much as any 2 of us combined! But also thanks to everyone who contributed.
I finished The Liar's Girl and add it under 3 words title prompt. Not sure if this opens the platinum prompts for anything that others might finish.
I think that will be all I read but really enjoyed myself and read more than I expected.
Great job everyone!

It also fits some of the prompts for the bronze prompt..."
That’s perfect! I have about 40 pages left and a wicked headache from being tortured by my dentist so very happy to leave them until we move to Silver :)
