Yeah, you did get sort of hammered in the Fantasy-Faction Facebook group. Of course, indirectly it was kind of a diatribe against our Goodreads group’s decision. I am not reading this series (and have not read any of Abercrombie’s books) but I will continue to defend our group’s decision to choose this trilogy.

Spoiler free version: It's very good, but I think I like my books a bit less dark. The descriptions of the brutality in some of the sections was really off-putting to me. If that would have been a little less vivid or slightly glossed-over, I would more than likely continue reading this series. The story is great though. Lots of plotting, action, some surprises.
Good to know. I don’t like unrelenting grimness and have to take those kinds of books in small doses. I sometimes read less dark books between the ones in a series that are darker, just to allow me to have a break from it.
