Tom Lake by Ann Patchett 5 stars

Wonderful story from Ann Patchett. Lara, Joe and their three adult daughters are weathering Covid together on their cherry farm in Northern Michigan. And over the course of a few days in the summer, Lara tells the girls of her time playing Emily in Our Town, first in high school, then college, and finally as part of a summer stock program in Tom Lake, in Northern Michigan.

The story unwinds very gradually, not too fast, but at just the perfect pace. This is very character driven novel and the interwoven threads and themes were a delight.

And narrated by Meryl Streep. I would recommend listening for that reason alone! She was as magnificent!
