3 stars. The older I get the less I like age-gap romances with ridiculously young heroines. Not terrible, just something I would have loved 20 years ago and now I need more from my reads.
On TBR since approx May 2016
53. Jeannie of White Peak Farm by Berlie Doherty.

5 stars. This is a beautifully written series of vignettes about a family on a farm in Derbyshire. More bittersweet than I was expecting but I enjoyed it from the beginning.
Wish I had read it when I was younger.
On TBR since approx September 2022.

3 stars. Okay but forgettable.
On TBR since approx May 2016
55. Phantom Lover by Susan Napier.

3 stars. A re-read of a book I owned as a pre-teen. Did not much like it then and felt the same now.
On TBR since ?2016?
56. The Angry Tide by Winston Graham.

4 stars. The least enjoyable Poldark book so far but saved by a well written conclusion. Annoyed Ross got caught up in a stupid duel.
On TBR since ? A few years.

Total books read in September: 19
Total qualifying for this challenge: 9
Total qualifying for Virtual Mount TBR challenge: 4
24 in 2024: 9 out of 24 so far
Books I should be reading in October:
1. 1001 - What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt
2. I have already read the number picked for the 24 in 24 challenge - A Dance with the Fae Prince by Elise Kova
3. Reread -

2 stars. In an ideal world I would have every book I remember reading on GR. This one shows why this may be a bad idea. Hated this. 2 stars may have been too generous.
On TBR since October 2022 though I had read it many years ago.
58. Casualties Of Peace by Edna O'Brien.

3 stars. Not a bad book but not really memorable or a favourite by her.
On TBR since 20/08/2023.
59. Deadly Rivals by Charlotte Lamb.

3 stars. I had read this before but remembered nothing about it. It was just okay.
On TBR since ? I randomly found it at the bottom of my wardrobe so probably 2015/2016 or so?
60. My Roommate Is a Vampire by Jenna Levine.

2 stars. That would be a nope from me. Boring and slow.
On TBR since approx November 2023.
61. The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse.

3 stars. I was expecting more of a supernatural vibe to be honest, but that is probably because I picked this up a few years ago, forgot what it was about and did not read the blurb before starting it. It was fine but the motive was poor which kind of ruined it for me.
On TBR since approx September 2022.

3 stars. This is the type of M&B I enjoyed as a teenager (fragile, overly young heroine versus experienced father-figure type hero) but not really the older I get.
On TBR since ? I randomly found it at the bottom of my wardrobe so probably 2015/2016 or so?
63. Frederica and the Viscountess by Barbara Davies.

4 stars. First FF regency I have ever read. A Pride and Prejudice retelling with a bonus FF pirate romance thrown in for good measure. Enjoyable.
On TBR since August 2021.
64. What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt.

5 stars. I only read this because it was on the 1001 book list and I can certainly see why. Very intense and emotional.
On TBR since May 2023.

4 stars. Just. Atmospheric and not quite what I was expecting.
66. Devil's Day by Andrew Michael Hurley.

4 stars. See above.
On TBR since approx April 2021

Total books read in October: 14
Total qualifying for this challenge: 11
Total qualifying for Virtual Mount TBR challenge: 3
24 in 2024: 9 out of 24 so far
Books I should be reading in November:
1. 1001 - The Passion of New Eve by Angela Carter
2. 24 in 24 - A Hollow Crown by Helen Hollick
3. Reread - TBC

2 stars. Predictable, yes it has a brothel experience in it. Also bizarre because our couple head to an island so she can even out her tan. And the only character I liked died.
On TBR since I have literally no idea where this came from.
68. The Awakening by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti.

4 stars. It is November and I have read nothing from my favourite writing duo? I decided to remedy that and really enjoyed this first installment. I own the first 7 books so I will definitely continue.
On Kindle TBR since - need to check but I think 2021

4 stars. I thought this was going to be a 5 star read but I did not love the end and it relied on certain countryside stereotypes. But I hope the series goes on to do better things and I hope to continue next year.
On TBR since approx November 2021.
At some point I need to do my November update.

3 stars. This book has a beautiful cover and I was disappointed that I was struggling with the book. I actually put it down for several months before picking it up again and I started enjoying it much more. I might get more from this on a re-read.
On TBR since I am not quite sure - 2021 or 2022 maybe?

4 stars. I really like this series of mysteries set in Renaissance Italy but I think this is my least favourite so far. But still better than most. The motive was not my favourite.
On TBR for a couple of years.
72. Endgame by Omid Scobie.

3 stars. Sometimes taking advantage of a 99p book is a good idea. I would probably not have read this one if not for this and it would not have mattered. It was just okay.
On Kindle TBR since 14/12/2023.

3 stars. Over-hyped. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding our lead's great-grandmother's murder but that was about it.
On Kindle TBR since 09/06/2023.

3 stars. Not sure what happened here. I loved the concept and enjoyed the book but still feel a little deflated. Something was missing and I am not sure what it was.
On TBR since ?. Shelved on GR on 31/01/2023 but I am pretty sure I owned this the previous December. I did not get time to read it for the last 2 Christmases and was determined to read it this year - maybe I had too high expectations.
75. The Book of the City of Ladies by Christine de Pizan.

4 stars. A book of huge importance. Loved the fact that amongst the goddesses, saints and formidable women of the Ancient World, Christine also manages to namecheck Anastasia, an illustrator working in Paris - perhaps a friend of hers?
On TBR since before I moved house - pre 2016. No idea why I did not read this before.

4 stars. I love Sliding Doors so I was hoping this would be a 5 star. It was not and I struggled to get into it, but it gradually became unputdownable.
On TBR since approx 01/07/2021.
51. The Exact Opposite Of Okay by Laura Steven.
2 stars. Best left for teenagers.
On TBR since approx 08/03/2020.
