Thank you. Horror is my fave genre, so it's always nice to get straight horror novels all across the board. 💀 <- (he's supposed to be smiling)

Book - Beware of the Woods: Scary True Stories of the Unexplained
Author - Tony Urban
Date - 12/4/23
Rating - 4 stars
Review - I really do enjoy scary stories of the unexplained. My favorite are the ones that involve some kind of cryptid. Anything Sasquatch related and I'm there for it. This book did not disappoint. Included were 26 stories from folks who have said that they saw or experienced something in the woods that others would claim were not possible. I have to admit, a few of the stories sounded like they had a bit too much to drink and mistook a normal forest creature for a cryptid. I can see how that would happen. Some stories were from people who have spent a large amount of their life out in the woods such as hunters and park rangers who are not easily excitable. Do I believe in cryptids, aliens, and weird hill people? I think it's possible.

Book - Optical Delusions in Deadwood
Author - Ann Charles
Date Read - 12/5/23
Rating - 4 stars
Review - This is a really fun series, but it does have some issues that I hope can be ironed out as it goes on because it's a bit annoying. Our MC, Violet, needs to act smarter. She is teetering on the TSTL category. She doesn't seem to learn because she keeps doing the same things over and over. Her BFF, Natalie, still acts like she is in middle school. As an adult, you don't call dibs on a guy and if he tells you that he's not interested you need to move on and not act like a love sick teenager. It's a bit icky to read. Violet's work situation is rather stressful as well with all the shit she get's from her co-worker, Ray. He's vile and disgusting. The mysteries are pretty cool. I can't wait to see what happens next and what kind of mystery Violet will get involved in.

Cute. At times too much info dumping and monologue, but good characters and slow burn which I love.

I forgot how much I love this series. Great world building and characters. Author packed a lot into this short novella.
