Just starting The One by John Marr and finishing Found by Erin Kinsley. Found is really good so far!
My fiance and I are doing a buddy read of Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. We had heard so much about this book, how difficult it is to read, the dark nature of the subject matter, that we decided we needed to hold hands to get through it! LOL
Ruth and Carmen, A Gentleman in Moscu is my favorite favorite book. I highly recommend it. You will fall in love with it.
Luz wrote: "Wanda I have not read the book and can’t recommend it."Luz, we are over halfway through it and I'm not sure if I'd recommend it. It is very well written, McCarthy is one of the best writers I've ever read. However, the subject matter is very disturbing, there are scenes of horrific violence involving men, women, children and animals. It is brutal.
I've started reading All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I learned about this book on the Velshi Banned Book Club. The book was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in Literature and from what I've read so far, it is well worth the Prize... It moves between two war-time characters--a young teen female who has become blind and a young boy who lives in an orphanage, who is nearing the age where he will be placed in the mines to dig coal when he reaches the cutoff age. He is a boy who is a genius with things like radios and at my last reading, he has come to the attention of a German soldier who has escaped the battles through his actions and talks to him about what more appropriate things he could do to help the Reich... The writing is extraordinary, especially when in the last scenes, the father and blind girl is running from the bombing of France and the girl cries, she's lost in panic, not knowing where she is and her feet burn from going so far... I am grateful for learning of this book...
Shirley wrote: "Glanda, you will absolutely love the book. One of my favorites."I agree it is worth loving, but it is also very sad and the historical story exposes truth from all sides, including of the soldiers caught in their assignments....I admit I had to take a break once in a while
I just finished reading In The Life Ever After by Alice K. Boatwright. It is the third installment in the Ellie Kent mystery series. A very engaging book with well-developed characters and a great twisty, turny mystery!
Being a big Lief Enger fan, I just put I Cheerfully Refuse on my to be read list. The library system should have it. Will have to look up Ellie Kent mysteries
Newsflash:As many of you might recall, I was complaining about not getting e-mail notices anymore about what my friends were reading, one of the main things I like about this site.
No one seemed able to help me fix this, and the general 'help' answers had some vague response about it had been a security issue and was 'temporarily' disabled. Temporary like months and months.
But a few days ago I reset all of my e-mail notification settings and Voila! I just got it back!
Ruth wrote: "Maryjo I’m happy for you. I think we all tried to help, but hard when we aren’t in the same room. Haha. Good job!"It's the "little" things sometimes.
I’m reading I have some questions by Rebecca Makkai. I haven’t been reading as much lately so I way behind.
I just finished reading Harlen Coben's Think Twice. It's a fast-paced mystery that kept me guessing till the very end. Not my favorite book, by any means, but still a good mystery read. I read it for a reading challenge that I am doing. It's my last one for the challenge, so I am happy that I finished early. Next, I will read The Last Child by John Hart for my upcoming book club meeting. Has anyone read that one? Happy reading!

I am a horrible member. I'm not really keeping up here. I just finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife. I rather enjoyed the book.
Got my hands on a copy of Lief Enger's latest, I Cheerfully Refuse, and although it is a sci fi, which I usually avoid, due to his talent I'm enjoying it so far.
I'm currently reading Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. Love the book so far. First time I've read this author!
Robert wrote: "Tyrus is an ex pro wrestler turned bodyguard for celebrities, then acting and now a regular on Fox’s Greg Gutfeld Show."Well I just learned something !
I'm also currently reading a Memoir by Raquel Ortiz called The Silk Purse. I love this book because it deals with a interesting girl who is Latina and living in the Bronx in New York City. I'm also Latina and grew up in Chicago.
I recently read The Resistance Girl by Mandy Robotham. It was pretty good; I had some issues with it and just put up a review.Even better was Judy, A Dog in a Million, the true story of the only dog to become a prisoner of war in a Japanese prison camp.
If you enjoy animals, she was an amazing dog for sure and the story is both funny, heart warming, and obviously also gut wrenching and horrific too.
I am currently reading Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty and I can't put it down. It is about an airline flight on which a mysterious woman predicts the age and cause of death for every passenger.
I’m halve way through Hillbilly Elegy by J.D Vance. Quite interesting perspective of a dysfunctional family and one over comes it.

Not everyone can pull themselves from the ashes and rise above. He truly is someone children/teens should learn about.

You must have noticed Vance's mother at the inauguration ceremony.... what a story of overcoming she has!
I've just finished Ashes in the Snow.... so tragic, but a story that deserved telling for sure. I'm on my 2nd Margaret Coel Father John mystery, Eye of the Wolf.
These are really well written mysteries.
Just finished The Godfather on Audible and now listening to Dearly Devoted Dexter.I’m reading Robinson Caruso, Roswell and Area 51, and Melania.
