I am on a laptop but I don't see anything like this - perhaps it differs by browser? At any rate, what Cora posted works for me. Thanks!

Sue | 2733 comments Yes - probably different by browse. I'm glad you found a way to make it work.

I really liked that one too. I’m not sure I admire Dickens as a husband, but the book was good.

Thanks all, looks like my library is not available-(the extension is the web address right?)-

The Keegan book is such a great recommendation, but unfortunately I've read it already, but I like your Truman Capote idea! I am on the waiting list for the Capote at the library now.

But while I was there, I found a plan B! Holidays on Ice - - short, funny, and essay format. Perfect.

Oh, but then I saw your review, BC. That bad huh? UGH. I may do it anyway because it's short and humor is so subjective, but hopefully the Capote comes through before December 1, and it's not really needed.

Theresa | 15655 comments I love Holidays on Ice ! Not all the essays are equal but both Santas Elves and the Annual Letter are annual rereads.

It's David Sedaris so darkly comic and satiric. He has mellowed in recent years in comparison.

Not sure I ever reviewed in GR.

I loved Small Things Like These. If you’re familiar with the Magdalen Laundries stories it’s particularly powerful. When I first learned of them, it was painful to realize that many women in the community were OK with it for years. If you liked The Heart’s invisible Furies, it’s that same era. Many “loose” girls were locked up for years in the work homes.

I love David Sedaris, but I think his later work might be more to your taste.

I may go with it since you did like it (and humor is very personal). It looks fun and easy!

Super easy and quick. I did review it in 2020 - one of my rereads.

I don't like his later writings all that much.

If Vietnam wins I will opt out. Possibly also for bullying. Don't need more misery in life. Vietnam is much more relevant to US readers than to many of the rest of us. Yes we should be aware of global history but there is enough miserable history in most countries.

Not all books set in Vietnam are about the war :) But I agree--I don't want to read about bullying or tragedy in December.

That's a great point Karin - I hadn't even thought beyond "the war".
