ABANDONED. Coming of age book, possibly from the 70's. As boys in town mature they are invited into an older woman's bed

Like many people, I am trying to find a book that I read in my early teens.

I probably read the book between 1978 and 1984, and all I remember about it is that it took place in a depressed town, and a group of boys hung out together. There was a mystery surrounding a woman who lived by herself, and would sometimes invite a boy into her home. It seems that as the boys of the town would reach puberty or young adulthood, this woman would take them into her bed. I remember the protagonist seeing a friend running from her house, and then realizing what had been happening. Not much to go on, I know, but it's all I remember.

I believe you are looking for Summer of '42 by Herman Raucher
There was also a movie by the same name during the late 60's or early 70's starring Jennifer O'Neil.

Wow! Based on my vague description, it sure sounds like it COULD have been Summer of '42, but alas, it isn't. The boys in the story I'm trying to find weren't vacationing, and I seem to think that the woman may have been older than 22 (although I don't remember if the author actually stated her age)
