Justin (justinbienvenue) | 345 comments Have any of you ever made a list or put your books on Listopia's here on Goodreads or even Amazon's version called Listmania? I have my books on a few lists in fact my second book is on the Western Horror list I created a while back. I recently found out about Listmania but didn't want to just blindly create a list and shamelessly plug my books into them .

I was thinking maybe we as a group could create some lists on GR and Amazon for our Weird Westerns? Just a fun idea I thought would be good to help our books.

I know there's a Weird Western list on here already but the Amazon list is a good idea. I might try and do that later.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 345 comments Yeah, I think I posted it in the chat thread a while back but yeah Amazon would be good. Let me know if you decide to. I think listing well known books would be a good tie in to our own or you could create an Indie Weird Western list, I don't know just a thought.

What would non-Indie Weird West titles look like? Is Indie a synonym here for "self-published"?

message 5: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 345 comments Sorry,
thought everyone knew what indie meant. Yes it's basically a self-published author. A non self-published author would be Landscape and Mike Resnick.

audrey (oddmonster) | 108 comments Huh. For me, just as a reader, "indie" means either self-published or with a small independent publishing house. So Mike Resnick would qualify as indie to me.

Pretty much.

As for the list, anyone is welcome to do it. I am battling my body today so I don't have the energy or attention span to scour Amazon.

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 231 comments Yeah I hadn't really thought about it, but Indie could refer to an Indie Publishing House or an Indie author. I always think of Indie as an author without a publisher, but yes, it could be either.

Do listmania's work across all countries? That might be the issue. It works for us but you're in New Zealand.

That could be the issue.

Good thing GoodReads works internationally.

Amazon is just weird about working in all countries. Goodreads is pretty much a forum and database so yeah.

Chris Hinkle | 53 comments That must be it. Thanks all.

Does New Zealand run off the Australia Amazon?

message 17: by Chris (new)

Chris Hinkle | 53 comments Amazon is weird. I only access via the usa site. I don't think there is a NZ portal. But it prevents certain purchases such as electronics. It does this by identifying my iSP address. It also prevents other tips of purchases by the origin of credic card. At times, I've not been able to "buy" a free ebook because I had a NZ credit card. Still a visa. weird hu?

That makes no sense, damn.

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 231 comments When I hear things like that I always wonder if it could be costing writers international sales somehow too.

It certainly doesn't help.

message 21: by Chris (new)

Chris Hinkle | 53 comments Yeah, it will hurt writers a little. bUt theres always a way to get around it.... we even get movies later here, but not much later than usa releases. About a week or 2difference. Tv however has come a long way. 5years ago the tv would air episodesfrom 2 seasons back. But now that people can justview them on line, broadcasters are forced to give us up to date tv or loose viewers. most showsare from 30% usa, 30% uk, 30% nz, and 10 AU..... in saying that, I dont watch tv at all.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 345 comments As he said something in the chat thread that gave me an idea for a list either here on GR or Amazon.

He mentioned how some of us have weird Webster's involving zombies, werewolves and it got me thinking if anyone else has a book that involves aliens, vampires or other creatures perhaps we can create a Weird Western Oddities or Fearsome Foes of the Weird West. What do you think? Just a thought that came into mind..

As a list, you mean? Yeah, that could probably work.

Chris Hinkle | 53 comments hi justin, I have two WW series. Both unpublished. The humerus one, Csilean the cross eyed cowboy, has demons disguised as whores who are planning to take over humanity as the dominant race.

"madam che che's sex emporium, servicing your local community since your great great grandaddy's time"

my other series, the legend of Levi West, has gods as the protagonist and antoginist. It's going to be ridiculously long, so there will be other creature or lessor foes in there as well. One is called scavengers. Think of them as unevolved humanoids crossbred with a hyena (can't spell that)

"mad..."

I take it your wondering if the things within your book would be considered as a book worth considering putting in the two lists I mentioned? Sure I don't see why not. I was thinking more broad with the obvious creatures at the time but aside from the obvious vampires, zombies and werewolves I suppose anyone can make a case for their weird walking western creatures.

I'm going to begin putting together a rough draft of books I will consider adding for the list.

message 26: by Chris (new)

Chris Hinkle | 53 comments hi Justin. No need to include them in any list until I actually publish them - which may be quite a while.i was just putting my 2 cents worth in to the conversing. Thanks anyway.

message 27: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 345 comments I plan on doing this one I can establish a reasonable name for the list, make sure the list hasn't already been created and find books to which fit the list. Though when you haven't read that made of the books within that genre and you want to make a list, it makes you a bit of a hypocrite so perhaps I could use some assistance and catch up on my weird western reads as well.
