Dedicated "To Darling Cousin Sue" (This was Susan Candace Davidson, née Springer).

In the 1930s this book was cataloged by the Library of Congress under "Mrs. M.H. Chamberlain or Carrie Carlton. Born Mary Elizabeth House, she married C.C. Chamberlain in 1854 and was widowed in 1863. She later married Washington Wright in 1865. He died in 1866. She died of consumption in San Jose, California on May 1, 1868 leaving her two children orphaned.
