Kim Berry | 1 comments Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen

message 3: by Therese (new)

Therese | 2 comments One of them would have to be You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle. I’m pretty sure there’s been multiple but I can’t think of any of them at the moment.

Malcolm Frawley | 4 comments Hitchhikers Guide books & Red Dwarf books. But I agree with several other contributors that Carl Hiaasen knows how to tickle a funny bone.

message 7: by Tina Miles (new)

Tina Miles (slrivergirl) | 11 comments I’m not generally a fan of funny books but I make an exception for Jodi Taylor’s Chronicles of St. Mary’s series. She’s a lot like Terry Pratchett, Connie Willis, etc. although not quite as silly.
Her books take on serious themes, wrapped up in tales about time travelling historians who observe historical events but always end up getting into a situation and having to extricate themselves. Lots of zany, quirky plots and characters. I just love this author.

Wyetha (wyesreads) | 228 comments I'm with Tina...I generally don't read too many funny books, but the funniest one I've read in the last few years was ...

The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life by Laurie Notaro

message 9: by Maja (new)

Maja | 61 comments I have to admit, that whatever I feel like reading a comedy that will make me laugh out loud, I pick up a Lindsey Kelk book. She never disappoints

Chalice of the Gods had me cackling with glee at my desk!

message 17: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (ammulder) I’m not sure about ever, but one of the funniest this year was Not My Problem. I mean, it started out super-funny, and eventually turned a little heavier, but I still laughed out loud more than at any other book.

Though… Imogen, Obviously was very funny too. I guess it’s not the first that comes to mind because there’s so much else going on, but the Dr. Seuss, the halves of the cat, the German sausage thing… yeah I laughed a lot at that one too. :)

message 18: by Amberinhonduras (new)

Amberinhonduras | 3 comments I don't know that it was THE FUNNIEST, but the book that came to mind was The Hilarious World of Depression by John Moe. It was both funny and informative.

message 27: by FantasyBookNerd (new)

FantasyBookNerd well, Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy is up there. As is Pratchett. I also used to love Tom Sharpe as well, although I am not sure they would be politically correct nowadays.

I agree with many of the earlier entries - especially Pratchett and Adams but Wilt by Tom Sharpe stands out - all of his books are hilarious because of the calamitous situations in which his characters find themselves. Can't leave out PG Wodehouse from any list of comedic writers.

message 35: by Kyann (new)

Kyann (kyannibalnectar) | 4 comments Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I'm also reading A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore and it's so funny. The Devil's Replacement by Michael D.A. Clarke is a other that I found quite humourous.

Miren | 38 comments Catch 22 by Joseph Heller

message 40: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Durand | 29 comments Thanks for all the suggestions! This is a great thread. My idea of funny is that I stop reading because I can’t catch my breath from laughing out loud for about 10 minutes and I peed my pants. “The Last Eligible Billionaire” by Pippa Grant…a contemporary romcom.

Jeanna ❧ (misskatz) | 8 comments I got a good laugh reading the crazy rich asians trilogy!

message 43: by Jacy (new)

Jacy any book from Meagan Quinn;)

message 44: by Ann (new)

Ann | 1 comments Aunts Aren't Gentlemen is probably my favorite Wodehouse so far, and he has not let me down once for laughs. The Grip of Film by Richard Ayoade has some funny stuff. For example, he says that at the beginning of Citizen Kane "The shame of dropping a snow globe causes an old man to die."

message 45: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Nelson | 1 comments I’ve read two of Paul Beatty’s that are both hilarious and amazing social commentaries: “The White Boy Shuffle” and “The Sellout”

message 46: by Dave (new)

Dave | 34 comments Catch 22 by Heller, Native Tongue by Hiassen, and any of the collections of newspaper columns by Mike Royko.

message 47: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 1 comments I don’t often read funny books, but books that made me laugh out loud were An Idiot Abroad and Bridget Jones’s Diary!

Amanda’s counting the days 🐾 (ajosephine) | 30 comments I see that Terry Pratchett is on here a bunch. I’m not really into audiobooks, but I listened to “Good Omens” and all the voices really made it so much fun. I was LOLing, all alone with headphones in (a while ago, ear buds weren’t a thing), which made it even funnier.

Amanda’s counting the days 🐾 (ajosephine) | 30 comments I forgot to say David Sedaris!!! Any and everything!

Daisy.readsromance | 9 comments I find the Stephanie Plum series funny, anything Sarah Hogle is completely hilarious and my new favorite Butcher & Blackbird.
