Eric Villalobos (whtrchr) | 1 comments Hi everyone,

I've never posted here before so please forgive me if I was supposed to post somewhere else.

I once stumbled upon this book that I took some information on, but ended up losing that information. The description seemed very interesting, but I can't seem to find it anywhere, so I was wondering if I could get some help here?

The book is centered around a question, something like If the "historical Buddha" met the "Buddha" of Tibetan, Zen, or modern Western Buddhism, would he be able to recognize them? From there, I'm sure, it goes into the history and comparative analysis of different sects of Buddhism. The title of the book was something along the lines of "Buddha meets Buddha" or "Buddha versus Buddha", if I remember correctly (which I probably don't because I've searched those terms before).

If anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be very helpful.

Larry (dralas) | 29 comments Hello. If you get the title I would love to know. You have probably searched on Buddhist sects and see it is a vast array of names and very regional. There is a good wikipedia page here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schools_... If I may offer a suggestion for further study all of the various sects teachings fall into three primary categories. The Hinayana, the Mahayana and the Vajrayana. One of the best works to read that provides clear information and examples of practice in each of the above is Chogyam Trungpa's The Heart of the Buddha ISBN 0-87773-592-1 this is a work that is essentially from the perspective of Tibetan Buddhism. Suzuki Roshi's Zen Mind Beginners Mind ISBN 978-0-834-0079-3 would provide a perspective from Japanese Zen and Almost anything by Thich Nhat Hanh would provide that overview from the Theravadan. His work that also offers a wide overview is also called the Heart of the Buddha's teaching.
