Joanne (joabroda1) | 12568 comments Anita, from my roll yesterday-I already read book #56. Instead of going backward I am going to use a 1 space advantage I have and move to # 57

message 202: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Shit! I was hoping not for the six, because of the 5-6 rule. But it puts me farther along! I will now search for a book on someone's shelves that I had planned to read in December anyway. I had a feeling I would get this exact curveball, but Mama U has been good to me. I shall prevail.

Using a tag-related benefit to roll 2 extra dice.

My last roll was a 4, so I have a 6+4 roll! I'll await your surprise advantage eagerly."

Consider the largest turkey you have ever personally prepared. Move forward the numbers of spaces equivalent to the number of pounds of that monster cook!

If you've never cooked a turkey, we will confer with the game leader, and if she's never cooked a turkey, we'll move down the list of leaders until we find someone who has.

I was anticipating a question like this and hoping that it wasn't this years turkey as it is only 7.5 lbs.

Over 40 years ago we raised a few turkeys. The first year when they were still young we had the best tasting turkey ever. The next year they had grown really large and barely fit in the oven. While only 1.5 years old, it was stringy and awful, which saved the others. It was very large but it was also over 40 years ago, so I don't remember its exact weight.

I would be happy to go with 20 lbs although I do know it was more than that, if it is ok with you.

Amy | 12913 comments OK I have a question. I think it has been asked and answered and not in my favor. But I thought to ask anyway. I have found a few books from many peoples shelves that I could use. But I did find somebody who has Tom Lake on their list. I have already started this on audio and I have over half of it left. It’s gonna take me another 5 1/2 hours to finish it. Am I allowed to use a book that I had already started when the roll came down, if it is on someone’s list and not my own? Does it matter that I had already begun it?

You raised turkeys??!! Okay that's so cool.

I will admit I never make a big turkey because it's so hard to cook it properly, and I do think they are tougher. I usually do one 12-14 lb turkey and supplement with as many turkey breasts as I need (which I make ahead and reheat gently in homemade turkey stock.

Thank for sharing that entertaining story! 20 lbs is fine.

So unfortunately you are right - - you need to select a book you haven't already begun.

That being said, we are so close to the end of the game, and you aren't really in a leader situation - - so I'm not going to ban you from PBT or anything dramatic if you do it, lol.

But to remain in the spirit and rules of the game, you may not have started the book.

message 210: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Thank you Anita for ensuring my ability to stay in PBT, if I have a sudden desire to be completely insubordinate. I appreciate the love. But, alas, I am not just a rule follower, I am a group lover. I do have other things to choose from.

Such a great advantage. I know at some point in the past I cooked a 30+ pounder. It was a very long time ago when as a teen I was cooking the family Thanksgiving on the farm. We bought our turkeys - Butterballs.

BnB Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life? Any turkey sex stories?

We kept hoping that we would have more baby turkeys, but these poor mothers were not overly smart and a bit klutzy and kept stepping on and breaking their eggs.

However at my school the wild turkeys always had a troop of babies each spring.

message 215: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5735 comments I always make a turkey of 12-16 pounds, even for just two of us, because the leftovers are so good. I would never get a turkey breast, because we both prefer dark meat. But the white meat works for sandwiches, soup, etc. Also I sometimes make turkey at other times in the cold seasons, not just for holidays. It isn't that much work and I don't have to cook again for days.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11062 comments My last two rolls were 5 and 6 so I need to pick a book from someone else’s board.

Has anyone noticed a list with any of these? (Finished lists are hidden under spoiler covers.)
Enough by Cassidy Hutchinson
The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother
Nonfiction …
Memoirs …

Other possibilities are
Girl in Hyacinth Blue (BnB Porter)
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow (Olivermagnus Engineer 2)
The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness (Oliver Porter)
Miss Percy's Pocket Guide to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons (Pam)
The Ghost Bride (Pam)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12568 comments Pam, that roll of 6-6 is a special. IF you do not want to read #59 you have the option to roll again. Let Anita know if you are using the special (it appears this is not a special you can save for later).
