Maya | 23 comments If you like children's books, then those are very nice to read a lot of time, because they're quick, same for middle grade stuff (I usually read a children's book if I want to get back into reading but want it to not take ages, and think some of the stories are really cute and fun).

Heartstopper, if you're alright with queer romance. (It can even be read online on tumblr or for free on Webtoon, if you have that, and I read the whole thing in like two days, because it was just so cute and quick to get through.)

The Name Drop by Susan Lee is a contemporary romance story (not queer) that I thought was really fun.

Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan or Skullduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy are pretty fun with a focus more on fantasy elements and adventures.

The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O'Neill is a fantasy graphic novel and just has the cutest pictures and made me feel really warm and nice while reading.

The Martian by Andy Weir is a little more heavy content-wise, but also really fun in my opinion and was an amazing read that got me out of a phase where I didn't enjoy reading for quite some time, so that might be a good thing as well.

All the books from Agatha Christie I read so far were quite nice, so if you like crime novels, those might be an option.

And Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds is written in verse and not funny at all, but takes like an hour to read and was very interesting, so it might also be an option to get you into reading again :)

Nicole | 1 comments Taylor Jenkins Reid is generally pretty light. Not sure if you've ever read Malibu Rising or the 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but they were nice.

Anything by Emily Henry...

I also enjoyed Yellowface...the topic may be a little heavy if you were writing an essay or something but she deals with it in a humorous way.

thecrystalw1tch (crystalw1tch) | 4 comments I've nearly finished the Fae cafe and it was just a nice, easy, cosy read. With a bit of magic sprinkled in. Might be an easy one for you to get in to ☺️

sarah | 289 comments i whole heartily recommend "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane". I started a book club with my nieces 3rd and 4th graders and this is the second book that was picked. I was really thinking augh not to interested in reading it but it was picked fairly by raffle so I read it and ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!!! This book is an easy read and beautifully written, the story can make you smile, laugh and cry, it hits you right in the heart in a big way.
these are my thoughts on the book but I really hope you read it as I think you will really enjoy it. let me know if you read it and how you like it, you won't hurt my feelings if you don't end up liking it. happy reading ☺

Lynn | 130 comments The Last Vampire by J. T. Geissenger was really good and not very long.

message 9: by Dee (new)

Dee Turner | 17 comments Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus. A brilliant woman isn't allowed by the patriarchy to work as a scientist in the '60s. Years later as a desperate single mom, she becomes the star of a cooking show. Laugh out loud funny, but also smart and observant. (Now a TV series on AppleTV but I heartily recommend reading it first.)

Li Lacombe | 8 comments Son of a Sailor by Marshall J. Moore. I read it in two days, it helped my depression during that time (I’m serious), and it was so fun! I don’t even like pirate books, but I liked this book.

Li Lacombe | 8 comments Oh, Life by Pumpkin by Leslie Popp is fun! It got me through while my kitty was in the hospital.

My wife loved this book. Fav of the year.

Miren | 38 comments These got me out of a reading slump:

Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater
The Beautiful Ones by Sylvia Moreno Garcia
House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

All of these are in the low fantasy genre, if you’re into that. Cozy fantasies, if you will.

Guy | 5 comments Some cozy books...
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke (beautiful and short)
Legends and Lattes (Cozy fantasy!)
Murderbott diaries (It just wants to watch its dramas, why wont people leave it alone?)

Tass (lovemyreading) Assante | 10 comments the HouseMaid by Freida McFadden

Circa24 Circa24 | 32 comments "The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant," by Drew Hayes. Yes, the title drew me in, but I've followed the series since the first book. Three hundred pages in the paperback, but it flew by.

message 17: by Kayley (new)

Kayley | 1 comments If you’re looking for something light and fun, The Selection series by Kiera Cass is perfect!

I also saw that you have Scythe by Neal Shusterman on your tbr. It is different and interesting and the action starts in the first few pages, so you wouldn’t have to push yourself through a slow buildup while you’re already feeling burned out.

Claire | 2 comments Other Birds, by Sarah Addison Allen! Total escapism.

Percy Jackson. Definitely. I loved the first book.

message 20: by Debra (new)

Debra Sabah Press Anything by Nick Hornby. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah (serious issues, but consistently hilarious). I echo the recommendation of Scythe. The Enchanted Forest Series by Patricia Wrede (middle grade). Le Divorce by Diane Johnson.
