Let's say you don't like the book you are reading!!! Do you abandon that book or continue out of curiosity?

it actually depends. its a real cop out answer. I am currently reading William L Shiers Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. It has been hard going, but I am glad I have kept reading. I find the books that I tend to abandon ate because they are intensely boring or dare I say plagiarised their ideas from someone else.

depends how bad the book is which is fairly rare if the book is absolutely unbearable i'll stop but if its not totally bad i'll continue reading and if its a series i wont finish it

Same here but I did just finish an awful one and gave it 2 stars simply because I sort of finished it. I skimmed some. It was Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents which I was foolish enough to purchase. I am so very sorry but I read a good review. Be very careful of strange reviews and please vote on my Listopia for the ones you abandoned in 2024. As my husband says, "Life is too short to read boring books!"

I sure don't want to get in a reading slump and it can happen so easily.

I don't usually DNF books even when I don't like them. If the writing is good I will generally finish a book I don't like, 1984 by George Orwell is a good example.

It depends both on how far into the book I am and what it is I'm not enjoying, but I am a big supporter of DNFing a book that isn't working.

It really depends on the book. If its the writing I can't stand then I am just going to DNF it but if its just the characters or the current plot I will normally continue

I finished one last year that I started in 2016 by forcing myself to read a chapter before reading the books I was actually enjoying. I finished it by skimming it. I think in my Goodreads actual fully abandoned books total 2. But I have a lot in my currently reading that I'll go through periods of getting back to maybe one day.

This is why I use the library. If I don't like a book I just return it, or if I'm not in the mood I return it and borrow again later. If I absolutely love a book I borrowed I buy it. There are way too many books out there to waste time reading ones I don't like.

Sometimes I give it a gap of a few days, months, years and then come back and complete it.
So far I've always come back and completed, have around 15-16 books that are at various stages of completion from a few pages to a few hundred.
