andy noble | 3 comments it actually depends. its a real cop out answer. I am currently reading William L Shiers Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. It has been hard going, but I am glad I have kept reading. I find the books that I tend to abandon ate because they are intensely boring or dare I say plagiarised their ideas from someone else.

message 352: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 120 comments I continue reading

message 353: by Mimi (new)

Mimi | 12 comments depends how bad the book is which is fairly rare if the book is absolutely unbearable i'll stop but if its not totally bad i'll continue reading and if its a series i wont finish it

message 354: by libby (new)

libby grace | 9 comments i got into a reading slump because i continued to read a book i didn't like. im still kinda stuck ten days later

Same here but I did just finish an awful one and gave it 2 stars simply because I sort of finished it. I skimmed some. It was Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents which I was foolish enough to purchase. I am so very sorry but I read a good review. Be very careful of strange reviews and please vote on my Listopia for the ones you abandoned in 2024. As my husband says, "Life is too short to read boring books!"

I sure don't want to get in a reading slump and it can happen so easily.

message 356: by Marti (new)

Marti I abandon it, I have a huge list of books to read so I don't waste time on one I don't like

message 357: by Meredith (new)

Meredith (meredithgayle) | 19 comments I don't usually DNF books even when I don't like them. If the writing is good I will generally finish a book I don't like, 1984 by George Orwell is a good example.

message 358: by Bebo (new)

Bebo Saucier Carrick Kamar wrote: "Never. Even if I loathe the book when of my main rules is to never DNF a book."

Sameeee. I am a completionist to my core.

message 359: by Avila E.D (new)

Avila E.D I tried finishing a book that was boring, but I decided life's too short to read a book that you don't want to finish.

AMEN!!

message 361: by Sara (new)

Sara LaValley (bookishbeginning) | 1 comments It depends both on how far into the book I am and what it is I'm not enjoying, but I am a big supporter of DNFing a book that isn't working.

message 362: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Brooks (asbrooks88) I only ever abandoned 1. It was horrible.

message 363: by Carson (new)

Carson (carsonsbookishdiary) It really depends on the book. If its the writing I can't stand then I am just going to DNF it but if its just the characters or the current plot I will normally continue

message 364: by mar (new)

mar | 12 comments If I don't like the book, then surely I won't have any curiosity about the storie, so I'm abandoning it.

message 365: by Azari (new)

Azari (azarvyx) | 25 comments if I'm already halfway or past halfway, I won't dnf bcs something had me interested up till then. if I can't even make it halfway, I'm abandoning, but so that far hasn't happened

message 366: by Abi (new)

Abi | 104 comments if I really don't enjoy reading it I'll dnf but if I've just lost a little interest I'll put it to one side for a while and start a new book

message 367: by Ash (new)

Ash (aeresius) | 16 comments I'll try for like 100 pages more, but if I can't do it, I won't continue and I'll trade it at an exchange by me for something better :)

message 368: by brithebusybee (new)

brithebusybee | 20 comments It depends. Some books i drop immediately if they're bad, and some I'll finish.

Aditi ~ readwaditi (readwaditi) | 66 comments it depends actually. however i do try to finish the book as much as possible but if its way too bad for me and i just can't finish it, then only i drop, kind of like the last resort.

message 370: by Lamaᰔ (new)

Lamaᰔ (lma132) | 14 comments it depends on the writing and the genre, sometimes I continue and sometimes I Dnf forever

message 371: by Ciara Grimsley (new)

Ciara Grimsley I try to push through

message 372: by Denim ♡ (new)

Denim ♡ | 52 comments oh, I feel strongly disappointed in myself to put down a book and not finish it ... but I have marked a book DNF more than once *shamefully*

message 373: by Steve (new)

Steve Rufle | 6 comments If I don't like a book. I stop reading and file as DNF.

message 374: by Dean (new)

Dean Harrington | 6 comments I read 50 books a year. I'm 63. This means I have about 1,000 books left to read in my life, perhaps much fewer. If I don't like a book, I DO NOT finish it.

message 375: by Kawaii (new)

Kawaii Suzuke | 22 comments I finish it unless it's rll killing me ( *The Selection*)

message 376: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jae | 11 comments I usually read multiple books at a time. I have several books that took me literal years to read. I finished one last year that I started in 2016 by forcing myself to read a chapter before reading the books I was actually enjoying. I finished it by skimming it. I think in my Goodreads actual fully abandoned books total 2. But I have a lot in my currently reading that I'll go through periods of getting back to maybe one day.

message 377: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 6 comments I try to read a few chapters but it there’s no interest I abandon it

message 378: by Maja (new)

Maja | 61 comments If I don't like, I stop

message 379: by Jenn (new)

Jenn McGrath (jmaccc) This is why I use the library. If I don't like a book I just return it, or if I'm not in the mood I return it and borrow again later. If I absolutely love a book I borrowed I buy it. There are way too many books out there to waste time reading ones I don't like.

message 380: by Andrushka (new)

Andrushka (andreinbookland) | 11 comments I try to continue reading to the max. but once I give up, i file it as DNF

message 381: by Killua (new)

Killua | 364 comments well I borred the cruel prince from the library 5 times to get past lage 40 because everyone loved the book im starting to wonder if im missing something or the book is just bad :)

message 382: by sarah (new)

sarah | 288 comments I use to abandon it but now I try to finish it because its a commitment I made when I decided to start it.

Maria 📚🐦‍🔥💛✨🧚🏻‍♀️ (mariasagdalen) Speeding through it, just out of coriousity. Only one book i haven’t finished, The spanish love deception, i just CANT

message 384: by Betsy Aiello (new)

Betsy Aiello | 3 comments I speed read to the end.

message 385: by Dana (new)

Dana Craig (secondgeneration) | 11 comments I quit reading and put it in a pile to try again later. If I don't like it the second time I pick it up it goes into the DNF pile and out the door. I usually give it 100 pages.

Clara 𐙚 🇵🇸 (clara17) | 272 comments I quit it, I don’t wanna risk the book slump ahaha 😂

message 387: by Cortney (new)

Cortney Guysinger-Demint (cortneylgd) | 33 comments I usually try to push to at least halfway through a book. if I do not like it by halfway, I shelf it for another try later. if I still don't like it, I get rid of it.

message 388: by Kaylee ✨ (new)

Kaylee ✨ | 3 comments if I wholeheartedly don’t like everything about it then I won’t force myself to read it (don’t want to end up in a slump).

but if I thought the blurb sounded super interesting and im just a little bit bored, I will read the last few pages and decide if I feel it’s worth it…

message 389: by BookishDramas (new)

BookishDramas (sanjibkd) | 269 comments I slog through the book.
No DNF's for me.
Sometimes I give it a gap of a few days, months, years and then come back and complete it.
So far I've always come back and completed, have around 15-16 books that are at various stages of completion from a few pages to a few hundred.

message 390: by T. (new)

T. Neoma | 23 comments I almost always finish. Usually I hate-read it so I can justify my dislike of the book/writing style. If I am only a few chapters in and I really truly cannot stand the book, I will stop, but I don't count it or add it to my shelves, just remove it. I only rate it on Goodreads if I've finished it.

message 391: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Emma Robins (kaylarobins) | 63 comments ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

message 392: by Brie (new)

Brie McKinney | 37 comments Depends on a couple things: how long it takes me to set it aside "just for now" &how long it takes me to attempt to pick it back up or if the book is giving me too much anxiety. I like thrillers and suspense, but some books just piss me off.

message 393: by Angela (new)

Angela (dtt1amt1outlookcom) | 35 comments I tend to read on to see if it gets better or to see what happens in the end. I do this with films as well. Often disappointed.

message 394: by Angelia (new)

Angelia | 8 comments I quit reading it. Life's too short to read bad books.

message 395: by .•G•. (new)

.•G•. | 12 comments I will force myself to finish it dnfs are not for me I cannot sit with a half finished book it kills me

message 396: by Shell-A-Rella (new)

Shell-A-Rella | 14 comments I always finish every book I begin…no matter how horrible it is.

message 397: by luckykarmatx (new)

luckykarmatx Nope, I will not force myself to read something I don't enjoy. I'm too old to waste time and I have hundreds of books in my TBR. I won't DNF any more... just delete and move on!

message 398: by PurpleLadi (new)

PurpleLadi I usually force myself to finish every book that I start, but there was one that was so poorly written and boring that, even though I tried, I couldn't bring myself to finish.

message 399: by Patti (new)

Patti Pasell | 19 comments What I currently need is someone to tell me it is okay to not finish a book if you are not enjoying it.

message 400: by LovelyQui (new)

LovelyQui (laquillapringle) If I feel like I'm forcing myself to read it and I'm not interested at all with the storyline I just stop reading it all together.
