Romy (readingonemorebook) | 33 comments i always finish a book even if i dont like it, because it hurts my soul knowing i didn't finish it. and also it becomes like a recurring thought "you didn't finish that book" and its painful. so i have to read it :(

message 302: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 7 comments I skim through to the end to see if I'm right (or not) in truly disliking it and giving up on it (looking at you, the latter half of the Interview With The Vampire series).

Daisy.readsromance | 9 comments I find it very difficult to DNF a book!

message 304: by Kiki (new)

Kiki | 23 comments i was againt DNF but I just DNFed 2 books cause it was so boring and not my type of book to read and as a fast reader I cant stand to read a book 2 weeks to be dissapointed in it and be bored during reading time

Reading With April | 15 comments I've done both, sometimes I can push through, but there have been some that I just couldn't do it

message 306: by Aminah (new)

Aminah Garangan | 8 comments Depends. If I got bored out of wits then I will abandon it. Otherwise, I will finish it out of curiosity.

Kayla Emma Robins (kaylarobins) | 63 comments ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I discovered a new method.
I leave the book on standby, start another and when I get bored there, I return to the book on standby.
So, I still can't abandon it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

message 308: by Gloria (new)

Gloria | 10 comments It took me many years to develop the ability to abandon a book. Even now it is a struggle. I try to give the book at least 100 pages before I wrestle with the decision not to finish it. But life is too short and I will never ever read all the books I want to, so I cannot waste the time on one that I am not enjoying...I just tried to read "Same Bed Different Dreams" by Ed Park ( it got a ton of glowing reviews and the premise sounded interesting) but I just could not care about the characters. He does write well, but the narrative was not interesting to me at least....so I returned it to the library....

message 309: by Joan (new)

Joan | 55 comments If a book has 400 pages or fewer I always finish it. If I'm really dragging and it is a very long book I'm more likely to not finish it.

message 310: by Alecsandra (new)

Alecsandra | 70 comments Usually I don't. Sometimes I wish I could be able to DNF a book.

message 311: by Pisces51 (new)

Pisces51 Is anybody consistent on what they do? Personally, I have undergone several stages before at least coming up with a strategy I could hopefully adhere to---"the 50-page rule" somebody proposed. I used it last for "American Psycho". I would LIKE to abandon a book to the dreaded DNF shelf without looking back. It is hard to do though isn't it?

message 312: by Cody (new)

Cody Claeys I try to finish but if I continue to lose interest I give up

message 313: by Julie (new)

Julie | 5 comments I DNF if I don't like!!! Some books take me longer to make the decision and some shorter. I really wanted to like "The Death of Jane Lawrence" and was even doing the audio version, but I kept falling asleep LOL. Then there is Anthony Doerr's books. I absolutely love "All The Light We Cannot See" so was excited for "Cloud Cuckoo Land" but could not finish. I might try it again next year but not sure yet.

message 314: by Lani (new)

Lani Putthoff | 91 comments Depends. I either push through and finish or I just abandon ship

message 315: by Ricki (new)

Ricki Brodie | 5 comments I put it aside and read something else. I do go back to it. My rationale is that the author took time and effort to write it and had a publisher who believed it worthy, therefore I want to see it through. This is probably a bad choice considering my age and my growing TBR list. I doubt I would get through half. What I should do is purge my TBR to be more reasonable.

message 316: by Alecsandra (new)

Alecsandra | 70 comments Continue out of curiosity, maybe it gets better, you could never know.

message 317: by Tim (new)

Tim Mcguire | 166 comments abandon it

message 318: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (daweik) | 2 comments If I cannot abide it by the third chapter, I return it to the Library.

message 319: by Christy (new)

Christy Money | 9 comments Continue out of curiosity. I can’t stand not to finish something I’ve started

message 320: by Noorj (new)

Noorj (noorywrnr) | 43 comments Give it a chance for like 20 30% more and then if it doesn't get any better I start skipping till the last third not blind skipping but like with a little to no information but still have clue what's going on just speed it up a little and then read the last third of the book and give 2 stars max lmao

message 321: by Dave (new)

Dave | 41 comments I reject very few books, but I know by the 4th chapter if I'm going to stay with it. If I'm not, I don't.

Muneeb 🇵🇸 (0xmuneeb) | 36 comments I abandon cause I cannot afford to waste my time over nothing

message 323: by JoyReaderGirl1 (new)

JoyReaderGirl1 | 25 comments 💠✅ As a NetGalley pre-publication reviewer of book ARCs (advanced reader/review copies), I always finish each that I request and receive from publishers because it’s my commitment to write and publishing an honest review of that work upon completion.

That’s just the way the process works.

These books typically range from:
- PHENOMENALLY ASTONISHING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- TRULY CAPTIVATING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- MOSTLY MIDDLING ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- SADLY FRUSTRATING ⭐️⭐️
- HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING ⭐️

⚠️‼️🛑 HOWEVER, friends, when reading for fun, leisure, enjoyment and pleasure, that’s an entirely different matter altogether.

Consequently, if I check-out library books or purchase books that I just can’t get into, don’t like, or perhaps feel are offensive, I don’t waste my sweet time on them. Sayonara immediately!!

I’m quickly off to my next adventure through the pages of exposition and exploration. 👓📖📚

message 324: by Emina (new)

Emina | 4 comments I usually go to the last page, and read the last sentence. and continue reading, ONLY because I will feel so incomplete if I don't finish it.

message 325: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (kathy66) I try a few times to start again but usually give up

message 326: by Mncf (new)

Mncf | 1 comments I continue reading it but on a slow basis so that I don't really find it way more boring than it already is cuz the books that make me feel bored are the ones that don't have details and are talking about one moment in 10 chapters non-stop and the detail after that is way more boring than the 10 chapters I already sacrificed my soul to read it. I'll have a heart attack in conclusion and die due to exhaustion or become a zombie due to lack of sleep. That's all I can say about that because I like all genres. And I find each of them amusing in a certain, unique way.

message 327: by John (new)

John Mackey | 67 comments It depends if it's really boring I will lose interest in the book and eventually give it up all together and figure what's the use in continuing. And that is especially bad if it's a multi-book series that the author has written. Because usually if one is a let down than that to me is going to mean the whole series will be a let down.

message 328: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Majette | 3 comments I would try to keep reading because it could always turn around . But if its too bad just dnf. That literally happened to me last night. I couldn’t’t take it anymore i had to dnf

message 329: by EdIsInHell (new)

EdIsInHell | 49 comments I always finish a book when I start it to give a fair chance.

John Mackey | 67 comments EdIsInHell wrote: "I always finish a book when I start it to give a fair chance."

I always try to finish the book as well but there have been a few that were just to repetitive of the same thing over and over again and finally after the first 60% I said enough is enough.

message 331: by MimiL (new)

MimiL (mimilbookaddict) I WILL DNF A BOOK SO FAST IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY. I'll look up everything I need to know about it later.

Artemis~Ebonie (Inactive) | 65 comments If I lose interest in a book I don't care enough to finish it. Sometimes I'll flip to the end and just read the last few chapters but usually I'll just set it aside and forget about it.

message 333: by Deviki (new)

Deviki | 4 comments Depends on the book.
If the book is bad but I still want the outcome of the story, I will skim read the book until finish.

If I like nothing about the book or any of the protagonist and no longer care for the outcome of the book= DNF

message 334: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Roth | 17 comments It’s rare for me to not complete a book, even if I’m not liking it. Usually it gets better, or I may drop it for a bit and try again later, that can help. I have started a book before, and then discover the author makes the book a platform for his/her own personal views. If I find the views objectionable, and it becomes a major point in the book, I’ll drop it, and may not return to that author again. I’ve only had that happen once. I vet books so carefully before making the reading choice it’s unusual I won’t like it, usually listening to an Audible sample or having a Kindle sample sent to my app and reading it lets me know if it’s something I’ll like.

message 335: by Lori (new)

Lori | 15 comments I pause my reading of non rewarding books but most frequently go back to slug through it via a fast skim. you never know what may come of it afterall.

message 336: by Michael (new)

Michael Oxley | 11 comments I always finish a book. Always give a book a chance to pick up.

message 337: by Rim_reads (new)

Rim_reads | 80 comments I generally try to finish it even if I don't like it but if it's really unbearable then I abandon it

message 338: by Heidi_2811 (new)

Heidi_2811 (inkerann) I drop it if I'm not interested enough. But if I'm curious where it's heading, I might scram through it. I have done it once this year... *shudders*

Keila (Taylor's Version)🇵🇸⸆⸉ ོ | 29 comments If it's too boring I drop it and pick it up after I have the patience to read it. I can't leave it unfinished if I bought it.

f4iryerims ౨ৎ ⋆。˚ | 47 comments continue out of curiosity (even if sometimes it's complicated)

message 341: by Tami (new)

Tami Willard (tamiwillard0823) Depends on what it is that I don't like about it and how far into the book it is. I started doing ARC's mid year and downloaded Goodreads again. I hate stopping so it takes a lot to add a book to my DNF list. I only have 3 right now.

message 342: by FifthMarauder (new)

FifthMarauder | 5 comments It solely depends on the book...If I feel it's worth giving a second chance, I read. If I think that the book is just....not my taste, I DNF it.
Though me DNFing any book is rare. I usually complete a book, and sometimes it turns out it wasn't as bad as I thought!

message 343: by Kiley (new)

Kiley Pingle (kpingle107) | 39 comments it's pretty rare that I won't finish a book. I will push through most things but if it's exceptionally awful, I'll put it down.

message 344: by Anna (new)

Anna (discobvnny) | 1 comments I usually continue reading out of curiosity. I want to know how the story ends! Although, many times I've put a book away and picked it up again later. Sometimes, the mood I'm in at the moment makes it hard for me to connect with the book.

I also have a tendency to hate-read or want to analyze why it doesn't sit right with me. Maybe I need to read more deeply or what I dislike is more a reflection of myself and what I bring to the reading experience. Also, knowing what you don't like is just as valuable as knowing what you do like.

If the book is an absolute bore though, then DNF.

message 345: by Indus (new)

Indus | 1 comments I rarely abandon a book. I may leave it half read if it's leaving me a little bored but I intend to (and usually do) get back to it. I very rarely, maybe once a year, find a book I have to abandon. I do sometimes find books I force myself to finish in optimism that if it has x number of stars on goodreads, it will redeem itself.

It doesn't always redeem itself.

People tell me to be more optimistic in life but it appears that I save all my optimism for books.

message 346: by ~☆~Autumn (new)

~☆~Autumn | 58 comments I abandon it asap.

message 347: by Ivana (new)

Ivana it depends
sometimes a plot point interests me (not necessarily because it's good, I just wanna see the why and the how) I'll finish it or if I'm already near to the end when I decide I won't like it I might as well read what's left yk, but if I notice early on that there are things I don't like or it just doesn't interest me, I have no problem DNFing
if it's a buddy read, I'll usually read it through so we can at least hate on it together haha

message 348: by Susan (new)

Susan Stimmel (suzestimmel) | 29 comments Ugh....I have such an OCD personality that I refuse to not finish a project I start on whichever it is so I did force myself to read such a book that I regretted immediately afterwards. DO not read The Widow by Fiona Barton! The first reader review is spot on accurate. I gave it one star but didn't review it but I wished I read that review before forcing myself to complete this book hoping it would get better and because I like to finish my projects whatever they may be. Lesson learned. Next time I find a boring read I will ditch instead.

message 349: by sillyskinnypig (new)

sillyskinnypig | 7 comments i abandon it because i easily get into a reading slump anyway
